The latest "Rip" gadgets are now available: the Narrow Stock Rip Guides. These guides are designed to be used on the MFT with either the stock guide rail hardware or with the Rip Dogs. The basic design uses (2) brackets that slip onto the guide rail with short (10" or less) sections of Incra T-Track Plus used to act as material stops:

There are 2 short videos on the Rip Dogs website showing them in use, again with the stock MFT hardware and also with the Rip Dogs, on the Demo Videos page.  There is very limited info about them on the site right now, hope to correct this by next week. I am traveling on business for the next few days (Lafayette LA & Gulfport MS [big grin]) so reponses to any questions may be a bit delayed.

Thanks for looking.

PS - looking for recommendations on where to get some good Cajun food/music... [drooling]

Just North of Lafayette is Prejean's - excellent food and atmosphere. Depending upon the day, Cajun music, barefoot dancing, etc. Oh and lots of alcohol as is always required for any gathering in Louisiana!!

Looks great Richard!  Your parallel guide set is working great for me, just used them the other day.

Sorry, no recommendations for your travels,  I can give you a few pointers in the Denver area though!

Can't help you with the music.  But good food is everywhere.  We like Don's, wife used to work at the one in Beaumont and we've known the family for years.  Crabmeat Au Gratin, trust me.

Of course there's the legendary Pat's of Henderson which is not far away.

For po-boy's we like Julians.

We ended up at Prejean's, great food and a Cajun ladies trio! There are even accommodations for man's best friend...

Thanks for the suggestions.

the legendary Pat's of Henderson

Wow! Are they still alive? I've had a few good meals there. I seem to remember one that was better that was called the Plantation?

I worked in Lake Chuck for a few days in the 70's gathering data for a new acid unit in a plant that was then jointly owned by Conoco/Monsanto and later became a Vista Chemical plant. My sister worked there as a lead Chem' E' for years (years later) and I think it's responsible for her untimely death from cancer. Lake Chuck is one of the nastiest places on Earth from what I can tell. 'Right up there with Texas City and Channelview. Those 3 places can clean tar off your car just by driving through them there is so much atomized solvent in the air...

I once went for an interview at Texas City Refinery and the town was evacuated because TCR had released a cloud of phosgene gas. I vowed that day to never set foot in another refinery or chemical plant.

Hit The Shed in Gulfport today for lunch, awesome BBQ, great blues and an interesting atmosphere. Who says you can't put lipstick on a pig...

Heading home now, hope to spend some time making sawdust this weekend.

A few folks had questions about how to set the NS guides up, so here goes:

Start by attaching the NS guide to the guide bracket:

[attachthumb=#]

[attachthumb=#]

(2) t-nuts thread onto the thumb screws, one holds the bracket on the Festool guide rail, the other holds the t-track:

[attachthumb=#]

Use short (9-10”) sections of Incra T-Track Plus to act as a stop under the guide rail:

[attachthumb=#]

Adjust the scale so it zero’s out when the end of the t-track to lined up with the splinter-strip on the guide rail:

[attachthumb=#]

[attachthumb=#]

To use just adjust the t-track so the scale reads the measurement you want to cut, 50mm in this example:

Hope this clears things up.

Clear as mud  ;D.  I received mine on Monday, did put them together, nothing to it.  Haven't used them yet but hopefully this weekend.

Richard,
I woud like a set.

So far, my shop time has been very limited as it will be until late fall.
The original parallel rip guides have been used once and work great.
The rip dogs are a joy to work with.  again, only a couple of times used for a project.
I will get into using in September after I am thru with lawn feeding/seeding and before leaves start heading for the ground.

Thanks Wayne, I emailed the details to you.

Hope you are enjoying the summer. Did you get your latest "pizza" delivered?

Richard,

Used the guides last evening to cut some drawers parts and they worked perfectly.  Parts came out right on the money.

Thanks,
Rusty

Awesome Rusty! Thanks for the feedback.

BTW, are you using the Rip Dogs with them?

A couple of the cuts I used them with the rip dogs and the other cuts I just used them like you do with the regular rip guides.  Worked great both ways.

Rusty

Just used the narrow rip guides to cut some 2 1/2" strips for a project.  They worked perfectly, but one caution, when moving your rails from one cut to the next don't bump the board you're cut very hard or you could move the setting on the narrow guides (don't ask how I know this).  The pics will tell the story.  I also used a few scraps of the same material I was cutting under the back edge of the festool guide.
First pic: setup, Second pic: setup, Third pic: narrow guide on rail, Forth pic: setting on narrow guide at 2 1/2", Fifth pic: resulting cut on material, Sixth pic: ends stacked next to each other to show they are all the same, and last pic: the stack of material cut.

Rusty, you do need to crank the thumb screw down pretty tight to prevent movement.

I have been working on locating a source for adjustable "L" handles that is affordable, they cost about $5 ea. from McMaster (M6-25). I can get them for less by buying direct from a manufacturer in China but I need to import 700 pieces to do so. Importing is new to me and I am muddling thru the details of customs duties, etc.

It is on my to-do list. In the meantime it is worthwhile to upgrade them yourself, it makes it a lot easier to lock the t-track down tight.
