Can't decide what to do. Got a great deal on some 1x4 Massaranduba (Brazilian Redwood). I am considering, Ipe Clip, Mantis, and Starborn Pro Plug. Since I am doing the work, labor time is not a factor. My concern is that when looking down the boards, the clips will be visible, even though I would be using black clips on Vycor that is wrapped over joist tops. My wife feels that the plugs will be visible.

Am looking for input from anyone that has used one of these systems.

there is the (very ugly from the underside) tiger claw system which csrew to the side of the joists and toe screws upwards into the bottom of the boards.  The IPE clip is a 3/32 spacer..not ALOT to see.

I have used the Camo system (http://www.camofasteners.com) and will never go back. Very easy to use and great results. With the hardwoods you add some time by having to pre-drill everything but it works great!

don't the screw holes need to be plugged or sealed after using the camo?  every hole is an open end grain...no?  do you get checking from the holes?

Nope. No plugging. The screws heads are tiny and come in dark and light colors. The screw in toenail style and are recessed in far enough that you don't see ten unless you are absolutely looking for them.

I haven't had any rot issues or anything yet. It has only been a year but they hold well and go in easy. Check out your local HD or Lowes, they both sell them now and have demo displays often.
