Needlessly Fancy Case for 1400 and 1080 Guide Rails

I made myself a case for my guide rails a while ago, and have just made a video showing how I did it.  I painted it with the Festool gray, just for fun.  It's sized to hold two 1400 rails (though I only have one currently), and one 1080.

I made it for my specific needs.  Since I don't currently need to travel with my tools, I didn't bother to put a handle on it, nor pad the inside to prevent the tracks banging around, though this would be pretty simple to do.

What I needed was a way to store my tracks safely and compactly, since I work out of a shared workshop in Brooklyn, where I cannot supervise my tools.  Thankfully I don't need to worry about theft, but there's lots of people doing their own thing around the place all the time, and accidents happen.

This case also serves me well when I have to stuff my tracks into my tiny tool closet at home.

Track Case for Festool Track Saw

Hope you like the video!

ps. moderators, I know there are a few other threads about cases for guide rails, but the most recent I could find was from 2016, so I thought I should start a new one.  Please feel free to move this if it belongs somewhere else.

Nice case. When you said needlessly fancy I was expecting something like exotic materials, dovetails or similar.

Curious how you accomplished the build animation in the vid, it was a nice effect.

Thanks!  I used Fusion 360 to make that animation.

I suppose needlessly fancy is in the eye of the beholder. ;)  To me, at the time I made this, painting a shop project and putting nice hinges on it seemed extravagant.

Now that I look at it, though, I see how that might be misleading...

Needlessly fancy .... needlessly fancy indeed, why would a simple carpenter need such a nice case .... tsk, tsk. But I was somehow expecting mother of pearl inlays and gold plated hardware.  [smile]

Still a nice case.

You Sir have multiple talents. I like that case  [thumbs up]

So far my track saw never leave the shop, but this could be a good addition if ever I have to go out. One day if it stop snowing... darn fake global warming!
