Negotiating with Amazon

I bought an MFS-700 from Amazon Warehouse.  When I opened it it obviously was not new, someone had returned three used and abused rails, two longs and a short.  Needing to use it, I repaired the extrusions as I work with aluminum daily, the damage was done my over zealous tightening of various parts resulting in dimpling of the aluminum so I sanded the groves and every thing now works.  My question is....how does one get Amazon to give some sort of discount rather than return.  I know that in previous posts members have gotten Amazon to discount rather than return the items.  I have made the MFS functional but should get more than the initial price as some parts are not new as advertised.  If I return... one I will have to pay full price and two they will send it out to someone else.

Basically explain to them that it was not like new as they had described, it was damaged, however you were able to make it serviceable.  Give them the option to take the damaged (and fixed) item back or make an adjustment in the price to compensate for the damage. In 99% of the cases, if you're willing to live with it, they will refund some amount to make you happy.

I did this once with an item purchased from and fulfilled by Amazon. There was a way to send a message and I noted I would prefer to keep the item and receive a discount, rather than send the item back. That's what they did for me. Unsure if Amazon warehouse, or other sellers on Amazon offer such a choice... In your case, I would start a return on the site, and see if there is an option where you can ask for a discount. Worst case, if they approve the return, you can just change your mind and keep the item.

Contact Amazon via either email or chat. They will immediately offer you the option to return the item for full credit (they'll even pay the return shipping) -OR- 20% off just to keep you happy, regardless of the situation.

If you believe that more than that is justified, you might have to escalate your complaint. But one of those two options should likely work for you?

It took some digging in the website to kind out how to contact customer service but they immediately offered me another $50.00 as a refund which I accepted.  Someone out there sent back their abused MFS rails for a new set.  I was able to make the set work with about an hour of judicious filing so in the end I have an MFS700 set for less than $390.00.  [smile]

Glad it worked out for you!  More of an issue to me though, is why would Amazon or this vendor sending out used equipment?  That's a lot of $$$ to buy something that shows up at your doorstep in used condition, and requires some effort to put into working condition....

Baremeg - That stuff came from Amazon Warehouse. They sell Amazon returns. So the deal is that the person returning the items can sometimes get away with some shenanigans by slipping damaged stuff or something that looks the same but a different brand. Think wrenches.

The people checking the returns are mostly just looking to see if all the pieces are there.

The blatant fraud should be reported to Amazon, since in theory they should know who bought it in the first place.
