So I just picked up a new box of 240 granat for my planex and it says "new & improved" it's a slightly different color, a little greener with white flecks in it. Can anybody tell me what the improved? Sure worked well and seemed to last a long time on this last job, but I can't say for sure that I noticed an improvement over the great performance of the older stuff.

The old stuff is sitting under the new for comparison

I have no idea what is new, but I sure hope there is an improved backing paper.  I found the paper to be the weak link on Granat.  The reality is abrasives have gone up in price so much in the last few years, and this isn't just Festool.  I wouldn't be surprised if this a stealth cost cutting "improvement".

That's one of the best things about the granat, the backing paper, very supple and durable. It conforms to the interface pad quickly so the edge doesn't scratch. The brilliant tore and creased easily.

Is this just for the PLANEX ?

I haven't really had an issue with Granat, but I'm one for keeping the abrasives sharp, some would probably call me wasteful. I'm not a PLANEX user either.

The last few boxes of Granat I got for the 125 had the "New and Improved" on the box. Not sure what is different, I had no issues with the "old" stuff.

The white flecks makes you wonder if they're blending Brilliant 2 into the Granat.... [wink]
I'm surprised they didn't relabel it Granat 2 like they have with other abrasives.
