I just wanted to let everyone know that just picked mine up and confirmed it does have both the Hepa filter and self cleaning bags standard  [big grin].

Pretty sweet, especially since I checked with Festool USA while it was on order and they said it wouldn't...

Well my question would be can the older Midi's be retro fitted with the filter and self cleaning bags

I have the MIDI and a CT26. I bought my MIDI about 14 months ago, it did not come with the HEPA in it but I bought it extra and have been using it that way.

Sal, yes, HEPA filters and self cleaning bags are available now as replacements for the MINI/MIDI.

Well, now I feel ripped off. Just picked mine up earlier this week and got the regular filter and paper bags.  [sad]

You really shouldn't feel that way.  The Hepa filters and self cleaning bags are available as replacements / accessories just like the other guys found it to be.

You didn't get ripped off.

I wouldn't. I ordered the midi even though I knew it was going to be coming with the hepa filter soon even though I was told mine wouldn't have it.

I'm not sure how useful hepa is over the standard 1 micron filter. For 99% of woodworking I think 1 micron is fine.

The bags are nice but they are consumables so even if you didn't get 2 standard, eventually you will get them anyway when it's time for new bags.

If you are cutting oak or sheet material like mdf or even ply's then a hepa filter is well worth having.

I don't know if I agree with this statement.  I'm pretty sure oak or even MDF dust particles are not sub-micron in size.  That doesn't necessarily mean the HEPA filter isn't going to work better, the question is if the difference is even in the realm of meaningful.  I will wholeheartedly admit the HEPA filter is cheap insurance.

Whether it's a standard filter or a HEPA filter, the fleece bags do a fine job keeping the filters clean. We've been using the fleece bags for many months in a Mini, two Midis, and two CT26's, and I think we're still on the same filters.
