New Dominos tested at factory?

Hi,

I received my first Festool items this week... Domino/CT 22 package plus the Domino assortment systainer. Taking the motor portion off the guidrails as you would do to change the bit there is clearly sawdust on the bit and around where the bit is seated. I'm just wondering if they perhaps test these units at the factory or if my new domino was a demo model perhaps... I see minor scuffing on the handle which doesn't bother me... just wondering if there's wear on the bit/motor or if the tool has been abused at all if this wasn't a factory type test. Also the one of the bag of dominos in the assortment was open, but I guess that could have occurred during packaging as it looks full. It just bothers me when I lay out $1,500 and I see use on a new tool... I'll contact the place of purchase acetoolonline.com but just wanted to ask you guys first if you noticed something similar.

Much thanks,
Charles

Charles,

Ace Tools is a great tool store near me here on Long Island NY.
I thought I read somewhere that the Dominos are factory tested, but scuffing on the handle?? and an open bag??
Something don't smell right here...

yeah, I did get the something doesn't feel right feeling too... the CT22 came shipped in Festool packaging while domino and assortment systainer came in just acetool packaging (not Festool boxing)... plus the top systainer, which was the domino tool, had a bug-dropping spot on it, which was easily cleaned up... and all the domino attachments were scattered around... I presumed that was the normal "shifting around" that may occur during shipping but it still looked sloppily packed.

Think I will contact them and let them know about these issues (and I did take pics just in case)... if they say that they used it a few times to demo the tool than I'd keep it if they were to perhaps offer a nice store credit which I would inturn put right back into a purchase of a TS55/MFT3 package or MFK700.

Just did some looking around and clearly the domino tool and domino assortment systainers should have come in Festool packaging as I now see looking on Festool's site and McFeely's... So between the sawdust, scuffs and lack of original packaging it's pretty clear that I got a used tool. Not acceptable. Me and ACE will be talking tomorrow!

Please let us know what they say, and if they make good.

This will certainly factor into my decision to go there again.

Good Luck!

My first purchases -- a R0125 and CT Mini ----- were bought from acetoolonline.com.  I don't think this has anything to do with acetoolonline, but the CT Mini arrived all busted up.  The box that the CT Mini came in had no styrofoam type packaging to help protect it ---- just box on CT  Mini, with the plastic housing being cracked and broken in the transit.  I don't know if this is standard ?  but I thought it was odd.  Acetoolonline did have good customer service and they fixed things up right quick.

I have received other Festool products (sanders) since then from other dealers that seemed a little beat up but they worked well so I didn't make much of a stink about it.

I never had an issue with acetool except one time. I ordered something they had back ordered and never told me until I contacted them 3 weeks later. I too once received a Festool with a little bit of sawdust, but that was from McFeely's. The tool seemed fine other than that.

Other than that one time, the service was excellent at Acetool and I ordered well over 20 times from them.

I now use Festool Junkie for almost everything. I really like that Festool Junkie sells single sheets of sandpaper.

i think some of the tools are tested at the factory briefly to make sure they work.  but the one you got with scuffing also sounds like a return and resold.  i have never had problems ordering tools on line.  however since woodcraft is only 35 min away  I buy all my festool stuff their and check it out before I leave to make sure it is correct

in fact I just bought another systainer cart and the locking meckanizism does not work and the drawers just pull out without pushing in the green buttom... so they are ordering another one so I can return it... one plus don't have to ship it back and so fourth.

glad I did that with my sawsssss 4 times returns... that would have been a pain if I had to use ups... because I just took the box and the saw seperately back and let them deal with trying to fit it all together again.

The Dominos are tested at the factory. Festool used to keep each block of wood used for the tests, now they just record the results and store them electronically. The scuffs could be from shipping if the shipment was poorly packed. No retailers are allowed to sell "demo" tools, I don't know if selling returns is allowed or not. Let us know what Ace has to say.

Like Brice said the Domino's are tested at the factory. I was told all Domino's are tested and the data is recorded.

If all Domino's are tested and nobody else including me has ever reported sawdust on their new machine I'd have to say someone was playing with your Domino at the store which would/should be a no-no.

Did your Domino systainer and tenon assortment systainer arrive in festool product packaging or just systainers in the dealers box? Again my systainers just arrived in an acetool box.... This is important to me in the event of resale down the road. I've emailed acetool so far with my issues with no reply as of yet... so a call is next.

If a dealer has Festool drop ship to a customer, it will arrive in a "Festool" box. If a dealer has the items in stock and ships directly to you, you would get the items in the dealer's box.
Acetool is a good operation, but emails to a company are not the best means of communication. Give them a call.

This was definitely true of Acetool for me ------ give them a call and they are happy to help you.

Thanks, yes will call... I think I was mistaken on one point... I thought each systainer came in festool product packaging (not taking about shipping box)... I guess there's no product packaging for these systainers.

Hi Charles

My name is Leon and I am the sales manager from ACE TOOL. First I would like to apologize for the condition that you received the Domino in. I am appalled by this. I just tried calling you so that we can resolve this issue. I don't want to wait till Monday. I not sure what happened but it looks like my shipping department grabbed My demo tools in error. Please contact me at 1-877-783-8899 when you get a free minute so that we can get this taken care of.

I have already pulled a new NEVER USED Domino and Domino assortment set out for you so that it can get shipped on Monday. I will also enclose a UPS call tag so that UPS can bring me back my DEMO tool.

Best Regards

Thanks to Mr. Davidman of AceToolOnline and FOG... Just talked to Mr. Davidman and he explained it was just a simple mistake as shipping department grabbed his demo tools in error. He's shipping out new items to me on Monday and paying for return shipping on the demo items. So this was a matter of simple human error... why can't the rest of the world be perfect like me...  ;D

Glad to have this resolved and I won't hesitate to purchase from AceToolOnline when I'm ready to make my next purchase (mmmm, the TS55/MFT/3 package or the MFK700... decisions, decisions).

Again FOG members, much thanks for helping me on this first Festool purchase of mine!

I'm glad this got resolved for you, and I am proud the forum was able to be of assistance!  In the end, looks like you got what you need, and Ace Tool had an opportunity to turn a problem into a great example of customer service.  It's moments like that where having a forum like this proves its worth.  Excellent all around!

Stay in touch,
Matthew

Wow, Ace Tool really handled that well!  that's good news.

I'm glad to see that because they have a terrific selection of woodworking related tools, including the best selection of Freud and CMT router bits around here.
