New Festool item

I attended a woodworking show here in Melbourne Australia yesterday, and saw a new Festool wonder. It is a vacuum clamping system, which attaches to the MFT and runs off its own (silent) motor. No connections to an air compressor necessary and it swivels in all directions. I accepted the challenge to try to remove the piece of timber from its clutches and only managed to lift the entire table off the ground. It has a foot operated release mechanism and an automatic vacuum when the wood comes into contact with the clamping surface, so it is completely hands free. The Festool representatives tell me that pricing is not yet finalised, but they expect it to be about AUD$2,000, which is about US$1,400. Obviously not for the handyman, but in a production shop it would be great.

Hi Ken

This is the VAC-SYS, which is a new item on the market in Europe, and available in the UK for 844.83 GBP.

Manual for Claming Unit
Manual for Vacuum Pump

You might also want to check out the thread I started last month called VAC-SYS English-language Information as this gives a full-page advert for the item from a well-known power tool retailer.

Hmmm....seems my news is not news at all.  :D

Don't worry - there will have been a lot of new members who have joined FOG since it was last discussed, and it'll be news to a lot of them!

I notice that Festool are continuing with their policy of releasing new products in English speaking countries first. Don't worry Yanks, your turn will come  ;D

Anyway , our new National language over here is Spanish. :-\

And if the presidential election goes to Obama next week, after Jan. 20, 2009 USA may be getting a new primary language, not Spanish.

Da, comrade  ;)  And what do you mean, "if"?  Don't you read the papers and watch TV news?  He's been the president since last April.

John

COMRADE!  Any chance you listen to Glenn Beck?  He has been playing what will become our new national anthem when Obama "officially" takes over.
