I figured with all the calls and emails regarding this new promotion this I would start a new post about the current status.

As some may be now aware, Festool has asked all dealers to suspend taking orders for the PRO 5 Limited Sander. This is a voluntary request, but I have pulled the sander off my site for pre ordering. We do not want to be in a position of taking a very real risk that further orders will not or cannot be fulfilled by Festool. Other dealers may be be more confident of their pre-order levels and choose to keep the sander as orderable; may be worth giving them a shot. I am hoping that all orders placed will be honored - even if that means waiting for Festool to make another run of these sanders in the near future. Fingers are crossed.

At this price point, demand for the PRO 5 far, far outstripped supply. We are all waiting for the sawdust to settle and receive further clarification from Festool regarding this sander. We will post when we get those updates from Festool.

As a last mention, orders will be processed and shipped on a first come, first serve basis.

Thanks. Figured as much. But truly perplexing because how in the world would they not see this coming? The company seems more than capable of maintaining large industrial supplies of their products. After all we aren't talking about a small bespoke company. I'd love to see how many were produced for this limited run etc. But every time they make a mistake like this it really sends the wrong message about them wanting to expand their market. Let's hope it isn't a huge problem. I did hear that the units will be arriving in stores before November 1st but that they still cannot be sold until that November date.

We certainly underestimated demand for this. We knew that the PTO 5 would be popular, but it greatly surpassed our expectations. However, people always seem to think that we are either much larger or much smaller than we are. Clearly, we not some upstart mom-and-pop. But we also aren't a behemoth that do large-scale production really quickly. Additionally, we want to maintain a high level of production quality -- not outsourcing to cheap labor in third-world countries -- and this unfortunately usually means slower production.
