Just got an email for the pre-order of the new thicknesser from findbuytool, it doesn't give the dB rating but aside from being a brushed motor it looks pretty impressive!

If it was a bit wider than 13" it'd be a killer thickie!

Looks like a Dewalt "re-engineered in China." with a helical head. They even have the chip extraction fan and the t handle wrench for the blade bolt with the 2 magnets.

@peter halle It's pretty identical, and is the same price as the DeWalt here, but the head has 40 inserts compared to the DeWalts 30.

If only they went with an induction motor, would make it a game changer.

I have the 735 and that thing must have been made in the same factory. Should be a great piece of kit. But you said the Aussie DeWalt has 30? Does the Aussie version come with helical cutters? Here in the US, we still have straight blades.

We have the straight and helical DeWalt versions here, straights around $1050 and the helical is about $50 more than the findbuytool one, but with only 30 inserts.

I don’t know if this is the same model of the FindBuyTool planer as the one you are evaluating.

As moral support, I subscribed to this young fella’s start of his YouTube journey. The channel’s name is Priest & Co.

Unfortunately, the video’s setting forces one over to the YouTube web site.

The Byrd-Shelix head for the 735 uses 40 carbide inserts.
The additional 90º dust port is something all 735 owners should be envious of. As long as it doesn't clog it's a vast improvement.
It doesn't appear they offer the typical Dewalt planer bed extensions. Not that they eliminate snipe completely but they do help after you get them sorted.

No extension wings but it does have extension rollers. 24.2" with the rollers collapsed and 46.5" extended. I'd have to measure, but offhand that seems like a lot more support than the DeWALT 735 wings. In the video MacBoy posted, there was no snipe even on a dimensionless pass and with a piece supported only by the tables.

But helical is designed to be quieter, and give a smoother and finer finish because it takes shearing cuts.

Also part of the reason they're usually more expensive than spiral heads.

But I could be wrong.
The A3 & Felder machines have the separate individual cutters fixed in a spiral around the head and they slice into the timber in a slicing motion rather than the whole face of the cutter all at once in the same fashion as a normal blade. This gives a far better finish and it should seeing how much the machine costs these days. I think there is a bit of confusion around the terminology concerning this style of head.
