PB Swiss Tools introduced the world’s first “Voltage Tester”/ phase tester (screwdriver type aka death stick …) with LED indicator instead of an incandescent lamp.

I know this is a rather controversial seen tool. Since being a very young kid I never deemed a toolbox complete without one of these - and I still think they have their place for certain applications - but please, this is not what this thread is about at all. It’s a world first regarding the LED indicator and I think that is a great improvement to this type tool.

I already put my money where my mouth is and have one on order.

Kind regards,
Oliver

So, I have one with the incandescent lamp from my passed father's tool crib. What is the benefit of LED over incandescent? Maybe it has a better detection threshold? I actually don't use his much as I have a non-contact detector (which you should also take with a massive grain of salt...) followed by a meter. If you follow IG: savageparamedics or Reddit's medicine/nursing/radiology, you know arc flash is a 2 ms life-changing event you don't want to experience... (and despite that, plumbers with no such fear make considerably more out here; sad because I'd do electrical as a blue-collar but plumbing hates me...)

No false negatives (almost...)

If the old one doesn't light up, is that because the circuit is safe, or because the bulb is shot?

Well that's certainly an improvement over the old neon bulb tester where you had to cup your hands around the bulb to see if it was even lit.  [smile]

It's also nice that is starts at 100 volts so that you know that any voltage it detects is real and not a phantom voltage. Phantom voltage makes me crazy.  [blink]
