Two days ago I received a new 75 in rail (cutting down 5x5 baltic birch sheets). I immediately went to FOG to learn how to properly cut new splinter guard. Thanks FOGers, the help was explicit, concise, and clear.  :) :)

I couldn't fail to notice that the material for the splinter guard was different from my older 42 and 55 rails.  The new rail uses a transparent material while my older rails use an opaque, black material.

Is this new material better? [unsure]

If I order replacement splinter guards for my old rails will I get the new material or the old?

You should get the new (clear) material as you replace the splinter guards in the future.  I have bought two boxes as of late to redo my rails and both were clear.

That's a good question, Dave.

I have some of the old stuff but I'm hesitant to sell it because the new splinter guards are deemed superior. I think the jury is still out though I value the Festool development team's opinions.

I consider it a question of sticky (and solidly in place) vs. slidy (and who knows exactly where it is). I think the whole issue is difficult. You can have something that you know won't move but is difficult to replace or move OR you can have something that is easier to move and therefore, you aren't completely certain where it is.
