I got a new Kapex last week and decided to pass on the Festool stand and extensions . I didn't feel either of them where worth the money .  I picked up the Ridgid MS-UV  miter saw stand and couldn't be happier with my choice ,as for my fence system I ordered the Fastcap Best fence setup and I'm waiting for that to come in .  If anyone is looking for an alternative for a stand I would recommend you take a look at the Ridgid stand . I got mine at HD and it cost $189 .  A few pics of my setup and I'll update them once I get my fence .

Jerry did you order the whole Kapex system with it .Or just the Brackets I had the Upper Hand system so I just ordered the Tripod' s for them. They work good if yo want to extend the outfeeds.

That is a good set up If I did not have the out feeds on the my stand that is what I would use.The tripods are really sturdy.

I have that stand, and it's pretty good. Only problem for me I'd that the ends of the support arms can slant downward, (not sure how to explain this), and I've had the arms get stuck once or twice. I had to put my whole body into it and wiggle it back and forth for a while to get it back to the closed position.

Yeah I noticed that two with one of my extensions arms , I need to lean into it with my body , don't know why it's getting stuck .

Hey Tony

Yes I did , in fact I just set it all up last week and used it , man is this fence system sweet . It's built like a tank , very heavy duty aluminum track . I can just rest it on the  built in extensions or I can use the third hands .

Looks good It is a pleasure to work with that systemI was really surprised how heavy duty they are. The third hand is great I have the tripod but don't really need it. One thing you may want to do is on the clamp that holds the bracket to the saw I added a back brace to it Probably won,t need it but I noticed the clamp started to bow in at the adjusting knob.here is a picture of it

Is this the fast cap system for the Kapex or the Dewalt? ...only asked because I didn't see a system on the website for the rigid stand. Thanks.

Yes it's the Kapex system .  It's there in the drop downs , their web site is horrible to navigate in .

Jerry, I totally agree that the FastCap website is difficult to navigate.  In fact it is so bad that after I read your post I took the time to write and email to Paul the owner of FastCap this morning. I had been meaning to write them about their site but usually I just do not complain as often it is just a waste of time. I informed him that I was a long time IT professional and that if I have trouble with his site the rest of the world probably also has issues.

Well to my surprise about 2 hours after I sent the email my phone rings and it is Paul Akers the owner of FastCap. He really does care about what we think. He set up a phone conference at a time that was convenient for me so I could show his web designer what was wrong with the site. Things like pull down menus that disappear just when you try to click on them and products not easy to find like the correct Best fence for the Kapex etc. If you have to use a laptop with a touch pad the site is hardly useable with the disappearing menus. Just when you get to what you want it is gone. Frustrating.

I have used their products for several years and love the company. I think they will make the site easier. It sure is good to know that somebody still cares what the customer thinks.

Thats exactly what drives me nuts about their web site . If I didn't like what they made so much I would give up when ordering from the site .  Glad to see Paul got back to you and I hope they make it more friendly too use .

I found the stops on the best fence to have too much flex to be reliable. Sold it when a used sawhelper became available. the connectors from the kapex to the best fence look better than the ones for other saws with those silly pins attached to rubber bands that break and get lost. The aluminium sure was pretty though. I found the adjustable blocs that the wings attach to also move too much and are not connected to the saw which is another sourch of movement for the stops.

kapex stand and fence question. i have purchased a kapex (still in box), but need a quality stand for 2 extremes; #1- portable to job site for lengths 12', 14', 16' trim miters; #2- a setup to for barn timber floors (3"x12"). each timber can weigh over 150 pounds, and be as long as 16 feet. I'm concerned the ug & extensions are not long enough or heavy enough, but looking for input. i seen the post on fastcap stands and fences, but i have never seen one to know if its heavy enough construction.

what does everyone use for long trim and crown molding supports?

what does everyone use for heavy material fences?

thanks

Take a look at the Best Fence Pro 2 or 3 .  That should be able to handle those huge timbers with no problem .  They make crown stops you can use with the fence system .

I have the kapex UG stand but went with the fast cap extentions that I love but if any one has the festool extentions that come with the UG stand I would trade. Like I said the fast caps are great but for what I do I think I should have went with the festool for storage and set up

Just a heads up for anyone looking to purchase.  The Kobalt version which appears to be a spitting image of the Ridgid is available for $150.00.  Ridgid in my area is $200.  Just some input to save people some money.  I don't own either but they both appear to be pretty good units.

I put my Kapex on a Dewalt folding stand. I built 8' long MDO plywood extension wings which bolt on to the Dewalt stand. I use it for crown moulding and interior trim up to 16' lengths without any problem. I use the same rig outside for doing exterior finish work primarily using 18' lengths of Azek. If I need more support for heavy deck framing, I clamp on height adjustable legs to the end of my wings. The Dewalt stand is light, doesn't take up a lot of room in the truck, is fast to set up, and is fairly stout.
