Does anyone have the new Kapex extensions? These:

[attachimg=#1]

If so, how do they attach? It looks like they attach to the v-groove.

If that's the case, how do the crown stops work? Are there some different crown stops because the old ones attach to the t-track in the table extensions.

I'm confused.

Tom

I think johny round boy posted a thread about this when he first got them and the new stand should come up in a search

Tom,

I do not own, but from what I gathered from the thread referred to by Festoolfootstool, they don't. I asked this question in that thread, and was rather disappointed with the answer. I still hope that I am wrong in my understanding.

Hi Tom,

Yes they attach to the V grooves as you suspected. You cannot use the crown stops when they are on and there is no new crown stop accessory, so its one or the other. I have posted a load of photos on here, somewhere.
Hope this helps
John

Thanks Brice,

As PM'ed to me earlier :-

"Rob,

I shortened your link in that post regarding bead and butt.

This is how you do it.  Click on insert link button.  Paste your address into the box.  Click ok.  Then type in what you want to show on the screen in your post.  Hit ok and finish your post.

Peter"

Peter Halle kindly helped me out yesterday.

It's really easy. When you replying to a topic above the box you type in there are all these little icons. The I've made larger in the picture below, the one with the Earth and piece of paper is for posting a link. When you hover your mouse curers over it you'll see it says "insert hyper link". Click on that icon and box will pop up, you put the webpage address in first then click OK. Then the you can type in the text you want to see on your post, something like, "here's the link".

One set of extensions no one likes and another set that we can't put one of the best crown stops available on. [scratch chin] [doh]

I think I need to look else where for a set-up for my Kapex, the mft's are starting to be a drag to drag around.

I cannot understand why Festool seems unable, or unwilling, to come up with an extension SYSTEM geared towards trimmers to accompany the Kapex.   Heck, even a little guy in Minn. came closer to what's required with the sawhelper....

Here's what I think we need, based on my own experience, and what I've seen guys improvise in the field:

Easy mobility and quick set-up.  ( existing Kapex extensions probably fill this need)

Full-length, solid material support.  One or two material standards will not support short or odd sized cut-offs, allowing them to drop to the floor.  (seems to  be covered by the new extensions)

Full-length (or at least extended) back fences for proper support when cutting crown or other trim.

Full-length (or at least extended) crown stops for cutting in the nested position.  The stops must be easy to install and remove ( or even better, just slide or flip out of the way without losing their stop location) for convenient switching from nested cutting to flat stock cutting.  The stops should also allow for lateral movement to provide for a zero clearance adjustment to the blade.

Adjustable support legs to account for uneven floors or ground.

The legs need to be robust and solid to endure bumps and allow for for the stress of coping, sanding, even minor planing, without coming out of alignment.

Just a few thoughts, I'm sure we'll have more.

Dan

Thanks Brice,

Just one more dumb question the web address is the bit in the box at the top of the screen that starts http? to get this address you have to go to the tread and it will then be in that box , then copy and paste it into the "insert link" drop down box? I can make saw dust but computer expert i am not. this thing should have L plates when i am on it.

Regards John

Hi Chaps,
All is not lost with the crown stops you can make a sub base that fits ont the Kapex with groovers in to take the black plastic stops. Dan the new extensions just about answer all you points except for the crown stop issues they are good, solid and easy to work with.

So get to making them already Dan!! [big grin]

The lousy extensions for the Kapex are about the only thing keeping the saw from being an absolute gem for all site work.

Yes, you are correct. Now you're a computer expert. [tongue]

Cheers Brice,

I ll never be one of those. Used to work with a chap that had a very good tounge in cheek definition of an expert.

It was as follows

Ex as in has been and spert as in drip under pressure.

He used to love the building inspector coming round, we used to make ourselves scarse while they had a toe to toe standup. [eek]

Thanks again
John

Thanks John, but it seems to me that I shouldn't need to figure out work-arounds for such a basic and widely used aspect for the saw/extension.  After all, Festool markets crownstops, to be used on their own saws.  How can they miss that fact on the next generation extension wings???

Perplexed, Dan

because they have a boatload of them in stock?

Hi Dan

I quite  agree with you it is an oversite on there part. However  crown (known here as cornice) is not a very popular finishing trim in the UK or Europe and where it is used it is mostly made of fibrous plaster. It is used on some traditional kitchens cabinets, so it may not have been at the top of the list for the German designers and engineers.

Regards John

And it is one of the most popular additions or upgrades here in the states.

My kapex pays the bills cutting crown for the most part.
