Great design and stunning work as usual.  Your inlays are always so clean and precise.  You'll have to divulge some of your secrets sometime. ;)

That's some nice work Ron...it's always a treat to check in and see what you're working on... [smile]... and your solid inlays are always a pleasure to look at. Very  [cool]

A couple of questions, from a potential client's perspective, have you ever considered a concealed lamp connection or a black oxide coating on the metal parts? Both options could tick the right box for new clients.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Hello Ron,
Your first two lamps have me looking at all of my off cuts differently.  Any advice on a total newbie looking to incorporate metalwork into furniture making - publications, classes, YouTube videos, etc.?

The black oxide surprises me Ron...the black powder coat I can kind of understand because after application it still looks like paint. Just looking at trends in automotive & motorcycle finishes, finishes on wheels and even on watches, matte black or matte finishes in general are really quite popular. On Mercedes, the matte paint option costs an additional $6500.  [eek]

Seems unreasonable when you can do the same thing with 3 or 4 cans of spray on undercoating.  [tongue]

[member=3075]sawdustinmyshoes[/member] if you want to learn to weld, I always suggest taking classes at a community college somewhere. Many have classes as part of their adult education program.

Equipment wise, you’ll want an angle grinder and some attachments. Wire wheels, cutting disks, etc. A drill press that goes slow is an asset. For smaller holes you’ll want around 150-200 rpm on the low end or lower.

If you do more than a few cuts you’ll probably want some kind of saw. Evolution makes some nice ones.
