my evolution r210sms has quit working today and want to (slightly) upgrage.

i want something that you can put up against a wall with a decent cut capacity and these both fit the bill

i am tempted to go for the makita becuse it is cordless and i do (did) quite a bit a work out and about and enjoy the flexibility of cordless but not to bothered if corded.  fyi i am alredy on on the LXT line so batteries arnt a problem

not getting the kapex (sorry [crying] [crying] [crying]) due to handle orientation (prefer horizontal style handles) and pricing (just a bit to much) and having used one, a KS120, i think, i didnt particularly enjoy using it.  (sorry hardcore festool fans. i do like their other saws tho [smile])

the bosch is nice and i wouldn't say no to it but is quite a bit more than the makita but do like the glide system.
i would be further tempted by if it was cordless

mt in advance

(sorry if this is posted twice but i couldn't see the first time)

I have MANY Makita cordless tools and batteries too. When I saw the Makita 36V SCMS for a good deal at HD I bought it. I already had an older Makita corded slider but wanted a slider that could be put close to my garage door when in use.

I really like this saw in most ways except:

When I was cutting some dimensional treated lumber for a deck project you need really fresh batteries (two bars and above). If not since the boards are not super flat/square like cabinet grade lumber the saw at times was starting to stall and wanting to kick back. My corded saw would have maintained speed and plowed right through.

We’ve got two different 36v Makita sliding mitre saws as well as a couple of mains powered, and they get used as much as the Kapex.

I love the small 36v Makita, very versatile, and so portable.

If your budget allows, and of course depending on needed cutting capacity there’s a new Makita XGT to be launched soon: LS001GZ
I haven’t seen any pricing yet though. It’s features and so it seems, a special cutting capacity of a 165mm blade seems very interesting.

I got the little 36V slider for face frames and cutting of 2 x 8s  it's accurate and easy to carry around.

Yes, the spec of that saw looks amazing, I haven’t found too much info on it in English though.
I hope it will be a general release, I think it will sell well. I have been a very long time Makita user, and think their cordless platform is the best out there. Just opinion again but, I also believe they still make the best cordless drill/drivers and impact drivers.
I seem to have formed a pattern, where anything for the workshop I buy Festool, and for site work Makita.
One of the things I respect about Makita, and Hilti, is they are self owned. I think that says a bit about a company.

As a non professional I have also had extensive use of Makita’s 18V LXT series. My oldest Makitas are from 2008. I love their drills too, they are great, still so my oldest.
I’ve also bought a couple of garden trimming tools on the same battery platform, thinking of adding more tools even in this category.
Although different, but in my opinion I feel that shifting between Festool and Makita I’m working with tools that just has that little extra thought to them.

Today is a “Makita” day, I’m gonna fit a new front door on my house, really looking forward to install this masterpiece of a door [smile]
Wish I could have had this new Makita miter saw to help me out outside though  [big grin]

Look into this new saw, maybe ask Makita for pricing and availability? - it could be a perfect saw for compact living and moving about - it’s 10kg’s with battery, and extremely compact.

[member=71478]FestitaMakool[/member] Yes, although I always try and buy the brand I feel offers the best in class type tool, I have a soft spot for Makita. Many years ago as an apprentice, I remember saving up for a Makita 7.2 volt, stick battery drill/driver. After using a pump (yankee) screwdriver since starting out, buying the cordless drill made me feel like I was progressing, and what a difference it made to my work output, I soon added another to use one as a drill, and the other a driver.

Makita have had a lot of money from me since.
Apart from a vast collection of Makita, we have a fair amount of Festool kit, the Domino’s and Kapex being among my favourites. It took a while for the Festool penny to drop for me but, once it had dropped, I spent a lot more pennies on their tools  [doh] lovely tools though.
We also have some Mafell tools, and a few Fein products, the 18v Supercuts being my favourites.
We have a single Lamello joiner, which although very nice, sees little use nowadays.

We have a few various other makes of power tools, some are very good for the money, some not so good.

Then the machinery, from various makes, no real favourites, although I do love the old Fobco and Meddings pillar drills, I am now in love with the Nova Voyager!

Would love to own some Felder machinery, getting too old to recoup the outlay now though.
So many tools, so little time!  [big grin] [wink]

Loving my new Makita mitre saw. Not cordless tho. The rail forward design is great for my small shop.

[member=71478]FestitaMakool[/member] i need it fairly soon so icant really wait for the xgt.

i am in a fairly small shop so thats why i want a no 'arse-hang-over' as a coulige that has trained me up a bit put it.

The 18V x2 equivalent of my corded tool  above is the DLS111Z (in Australia anyway).

It’s a 260mm saw. The forward rail design means no rear overhang so it fits in a 600mm deep bench yet you still get a full 310mm slide depth.

The front hangs about 120mm over the bench front, but when swung around to the 60 degree mitre it sits almost flush.

I get it, but you could give Makita UK HQ a call, tell them you are a young apprentice and ask polite for a possible buy of one of their demo units  [big grin] - I’ve heard that dealers have received demo units of the new XGT series  [wink]

I have an older Makita that I am also looking to replace with a newer one.  I like the one I have, but the precision is not to my liking.  Like [member=72337]notenoughcash[/member], I am not going to go with the Kapex, although I have been tempted more than once.  There has been a lot of discussion in this thread about the cordless one coming out, but I do not need cordless.  What are the thoughts on which model from Makita that is corded.  I found it interesting the 12 inch is cheaper than the 10 inch, but I have not looked at specs, etc. so I am sure there is a difference in functionality. Thoughts, advice??

We have a MAKITA DLS714NZ (36v) which has a 190mm (7-1/2”) blade.
It’s a great little saw with good battery run time, and can handle bigger jobs than you’d expect.
It was bought solely with being mobile in mind, and it doesn’t disappoint.
It’s one of my favourites.
This and the mains powered version, is a good step into the compound mitre saw field.

Niggles: Should have come with a laser, and may do in other countries? We have fitted an inertia type that works very well.
Other than that, I love it.

We also have two of these Makita DLS110Z 18Vx2 (36v) Slide Compound Mitre Saw 260mm LXT
They have a 260mm (10-1/4”) blade.
Again these were bought for mobile site work.
Generally really nice saw, very capable of precision work when needed. Small footprint for such a wide cutting saw.

Niggles: Heavy compared to some in class saws.
Also, some come out of the box not calibrated properly. This can be sorted with adjustments but still annoying.
As good as these saws are, and they are very good, they are not a Kapex but, they are not priced like a Kapex either.

The mains powered version, is more or less the same, even power wise.

A colleague has just bought the 12” cordless, similar machine to the above model. It’s big though, very big, and heavy.
A mains powered version would be nice if stationary in a workshop, I wouldn’t fancy carrying one too far, or up flights of stairs though. [blink]

Jiggy, good post.  could you give details of the laser you fitted? Any advice about fitting it?

i could do that but that apprentice bit isn't entirely true. and i like to think i am an honest sort of guy [blink] [smile].  its more of a weekend hobby (if you can call working on friends houses FOC a hobby).  plus i would have to get the batteries and chargers and suchlike.......

i am asuming your talking about the UK [member=71478]FestitaMakool[/member]

i got the DLS110 today.  coming on the 29th!!!

got it from ffx.co.uk

not in anyway affiliated but they do do festool and other good brands cheep

not sure abt international shipping

on a diifent note does anyone have experiance with this table saw?https://ffx.co.uk/tools/product/Scheppach-Hs120-4046664009351-230V-12In-Site-Table-Saw

I use FFX a fair bit, always found them very good, a couple of times I‘ve visited one of their stores, and it’s well stocked.
Sorry I don’t have experience with that table saw but, doesn’t look bad for the price, and a well known brand.
