New portable Makita miter saw XGT 40V

Hi,

I have seen and played a little with it’s earlier “brother” the DLS 600. I have to say, it did feel better than any other Makita saw I have seen before, many great details, and sooo compact! Quality feel was also very high. It’s little brother does have limited capacity since it has no rails.
It seems that this new saw also will run on one battery at the time. And judging by the photos (my Japanese is zero..) there are new features and improvements over its predecessor.

Looks good at first glance. Chrome translated it to English pretty well. Couldn't see a weight for it anywhere which is what put me off their latest 36v offerings which are around 6kg heavier than a KS120 IIRC.

When the time comes I'll be flattening my shed and building anew so a cordless mitre saw is on the radar... but 46mm depth of cut will be limiting for roughsawn 2x.

I noticed also, 2X is translated to 48mm timber here. 2mm’s... [crying]
The base seems to be deep, maybe it can function like KS120. There’s a mention of cutting 55x150, 55x100 and 55x80 although I couldn’t get the context.
I just double checked my 18V Makita circular saw, it does 55mm at 90°... it also has 165mm blade.

I thought I saw the weight, and was right, it’s 10 kg’s including a 2,5Ah battery.
That’s pretty good.

I think this means at full extension it’s able to cut 55mm deep at 150mm and 46mm at 182mm

Thanks, that makes sense.
Again it means it must have some kind of two sets of cutting depth/stroke.

Still, if so, it should handle 2x4 and that is very interesting.

Now, if the KS60 comes in a battery version, it would be two very interesting choices. The KS60 still is very tempting, even corded.

I think the 55mm cut measurements are assuming you've packed out the fence by 20mm. Maybe. That's not something I'd want to do very often if that's the case.

Installed a shiny new KS60 to its new forever home last night. This 40v saw probably would've gone in its place were it available right now as it's only meant for smaller cuts and to save me hauling out the 120. When it comes to cutting bigger bits to repeated lengths the 120 and wings will be used so the smaller capacity of the Makita wouldn't be a deal breaker... and being cordless and only 10kg would be major plusses. Ho hum.
