I’ve had tinnitus since I was a small child (about 70 years worth. At various times, my doctors got paranoid and I have had CAT scans of my brain three times that I can recall.
The crazy thing about it is that if it were tumor-caused (and sometimes they are), the tumor would be located in a spot that would be inoperable. So they could find out about a potential tumor, but could do nothing about it.
Lately, instead of the high-pitched tinnitus, I’ve been hearing a very convincing “roar”. I know it is internal because when I put my hands over my ears, the sound continues.
Recently, I have discovered that the “roar” is caused by motors running or water running. The actual sound is completely different from (for example) the exhaust fan. But turning off the fan kills the noise in my head. It is like someone snuck a cochlear implant that hears motors running or water rushing from the faucet.
That actual sound is different from what I hear internally and it will drown out the internal sound when I get close.
And, no. I am not going to get another CAT scan.
