New sysport workbench and cabinets

It's been a while since I had anything to share but here goes! I was finally able to find time to build the workbench and cabinets I had originally planned for my new shop. In 2015 when I moved in I just reused most of my previous benches and cabinets, which were much too small for the room so most of my systainers were stacked on the floor and the workbench was always cluttered with work pieces and tools.

But now I finally made proper benches and cabinets for my shop, I now have a 5m long sysport workbench, a wall covered with sysport cabinets and a tool cabinet above the workbench.

In the sysport workbench I have systainers obviously but also normal drawers for hardware.

Lots of clamping options as before, but now I also built this little platform that helps me rest tall work pieces for sanding or assembly, it locks into the peg holes of the legs.

I needed this tool cabinet to keep my most used tools off the bench, the peg board panels make it easy to attach tool holder from behind. Below the cabinet a rack for chisels and other things I need often.

Inside the cabinet angled shelves to hold my drill bits and router cutters.

The sysport wall, as you can see I used the SYS-AZ drawers from Festool here, I originally planned on making all these myself but wanted to make my plans compatible with the SYS-AZ so I asked Festool Belgium if they could perhaps lend me a few for demonstration, not only did they agree but they sent me 30 I could keep!
It helped me discover these are actually pretty well designed, I tried to copy the design in wood but you cannot make homemade ones that are as efficient in space. So if space is an issue then these are to be seriously considered.

In the corner I made an open shelf cabinet in which I lay all the parts for the current project, these used to be on the workbench or on the floor. It's perhaps the biggest improvement to my shop.

Very nice!  I'm drooling and dreaming up my own ideas at the same time.  Several questions...

It looks like the shop is next to a house from the pictures.  The video shows a large warehouse looking place at the start, and a large Table saw setup next to it.  Is it all the same location?

On the bench, you have vertical strips with oblong holes down the fronts.  How do you use those holes?

What do you build in the shop?

The first shot is an exterior view of my workshop, the assembly room where I have these cabinets and benches set up is basically behind those windows. At the back of that room is the machine room where I have all my stationary machines.
I like to keep those apart but it's basically one giant room with a dividing wall in between.

The holes in the front of the legs are there to insert pegs on which you can rest work pieces, the holes in the sides are there for clamps and other jigs.

Wow those are nice. You probably noticed it wasn't possible to make something out of wood so thin and space efficient as the SYS-AZ, if only because the bottom is like 2mm thick.

Thanks for this post and the video. I moved in to a new house last March and am about to organise my workshop. I was in 2 minds about keeping it in its current "rustic" form or making it a lot more modern and fresh, and your thread has definitely encouraged me to go with the latter.

That Felder table is amazing! I finally see how fast it can be to break down sheet goods with the sliding attachment. Wow!

[member=10829]Timtool[/member] , do you have a way to clean out what is underneath the benchtop with all the holes?  from the vid, it looks like it's closed up  permanently.  i drop screws and small parts in the holes of my mft table and worktops all the time lol.

[member=13837]hayaku[/member] On my previous sysport that I used for 6 years, I initially thought I would have to remove the top from time to time but it turns out that you can get screws and bits easily out with a magnetic bit or screwdriver, and when dust accumulates in one spot you can get it out by passing the D27 hose over the holes.

There are some very impressive workshops on this forum, but I think yours is far and away the most impressive! Awesome work. Although, my wife overruled me when I told her I wanted to build a similar workshop. She said there was no way my workshop was going to be nicer than her kitchen.  [smile]

What an awesome workspace.  I think there's maybe a dozen things I learned in the videos and maybe twice that in ideas...and man do you make fab look easy!!  Can't wait to see more.

I've been following your stuff for years now.  Whatever happened to the dual MFTC?  You never posted up finished pics and I'd really like to see how it turned out.

That wasn't me, it's a builder from Holland who made a double MFTC.
