I think it's all about the van racking, so you can pull it out when it is on the rails close to the systainer above it.

The old style was stackable too, except no other stuff could be on top of the Toolbox.

This is just a "normal" Systainer with a hole cut in the lid.

I would like to know the dimensions of the opening of the L box  with the handle down.

Looking at the photos it appears lid might be functional on the SYS3 TB. It looks like the lid could open just as any Systainer does if you rotate the latch to the correct position. Does it come with any dividers for the interior? I know it's not difficult to make them just curious if they plan to offer any. Placing your tools in that large space would be no better than a 5 gallon tool bucket, whatever you need will be at the bottom of the pile.
