Bought a custom V nose Trailer, 20' plus the V nose is about 28' and 8.5' wide,  got the V nose so I could get the front fold down door (Snow mobile, 4 Wheeler model). The front door and rear door down allow me to cut crown inside in any weather and eliminate setup tear down time.

I built the 8' rolling work bench chassis in the trailer. Had plenty of room to handle 4x8 sheets of 5/8 plywood. Made it rolling for 2 reasons. 1) I can use it in either trailer, the 14' or Car Hauler. 2) It is a car hauler and I want a corvette  [big grin] So when I get it I can still use it for either purpose.

That is a full size fridge sitting next to the bench and I still had plenty of room. The fridge is going to a friends garage this week.

Now that I have the Bench built I need to design and build 2 (left/right) 5 inch-ish tall wings for the Kapex. I might keep and use the original Ultimate Kapex stand for other jobs where I can set it on saw horses.

Next project this week is to build a rolling Table saw stand that will attach to the 8' bench and act as a feed table.

I put heavy duty 5" locking wheels on it and loaded with tools still rolls smoothly and effortlessly, Not bad on asphalt road either. If I get a house with a garage I will just roll this in for a work shop.

Dimensions: 8' long, 35" tall with wheels, 28" deep cab, 29" top. I used the Kreg jig pocket joint and glued all joints with Tite bond ultimate. The top is only fastened with the pocket screws for easy replacement later.

Plans for the wings (and I have to give credit to my 20-1/2 yr old son for coming up with the storage idea) make them 46" wide (that is the opening on each side of the center post) and put in a cleat/shelf on each side and slide them in under the top for storage, some kind of twist latch to keep them from coming out in transit. When I need the Kapex, just set it up on the bench and pull out the wings and fasten down, ready to cut. That thing is HUGE!!! [scared] [eek]

Congrats - awesome rolling workshop [wink]

I just built the rolling table saw stand. Looks the same, 40" wide 28" depth, same wheels but no top. has about 16-1/4 " under the table saw shelf. Saw sets up about 1/8" above 8' workbench so if I need, I can use it as a feed table. Delta 13" thickness planer and Portercable Joiner fit under saw. Have some space beside saw where the Mikita hand plane and case fits.

Im building everything to fit in my 14' trailer. Realized the big trailer won't fit at to many jobs right now. Since I do not have a garage to work out of It is easy to roll out of the 14' trailer and into the Car hauler.

Was surprised at how much room I had cutting plywood and building inside of it. After the 8' workbench was finished, I measured between wall and bench.....If I build one for the other side I will have 30" in-between :) Not bad for a portable work shop

Thats ridiculous  [smile]

My little shed/shop is half the size ..and I can't tow it lol

Nice one

[laughing] If I could have a Shed or work shop I would. Parking sucks once in a while lol If I take the big trailer to a court/circle I usually have to back out smh

Now THAT's what I'm talking about! Nice choice. Are you gonna put heat or AC in there?

BTW, what do you pull it with?

I have a portable "Lil Buddy) Propane heater on a 20lb bottle. will heat that trailer up fast. I use it in a tree house when hunting or if I do a drywall patch and need the mud to dry quicker. Don't need AC but have a portable fan.

'06 Chevy Avalanche 1500

Thanks

I was curious myself. Something like that here in Oz is uncommon. I'm guessing something north of an F250.

He said '06 Chevy Avalanche 1500' which arguably equates to an F150. I guess it depends on how far and how fast you are trying to pull it?

Yeah its is like a F150. The chevy has a box frame chassis and a 5.3L engine that came with a factory towing package. The most it would need is a helper leaf spring in the rear to stiffen and take out some sag depending on how the trailer is loaded and balanced.

I thought about buying a Chevy/GMC 2500 truck or Hummer H2. Apparently the H2 has the best towing due to the hitch being right next to the rear axle and a 6.2L engine. The Hummer is all GMC made but gas millage sucks lol. Just wasn't looking forward to another insurance payment and would rather buy a corvette .

The old trailer.....2 years old lol It is easier to use this trailer in most cases but I can't really work in it cutting moulding. The large one will be for bad weather Rain, extreme sun (so I can see the laser on the Kapex and not get a head ache from brightness)  [attachimg=1][attachimg=2][attachimg=3][attachimg=4][attachimg=5][attachimg=6]

Unless they're directly over a cross member, place 12" square x 1/8" thick steel plates under the bench wheels. I had mine punch through the floor due to the weight and bouncing.

Wow good to know. I never thought of that.

A lot of load in a small area.

I have to purchase a new trailer today, hopefully I can find an 8/6x18. I'd really like barn doors on this one, but.....

Any luck? What is your reason for preferring barn doors? I had an old 12' u-haul for years with the overhead roll up door and it kinda sucked loading and unloading anything with wheels.

I can't speak for Tom, but my choice would also be barn doors at the rear - especially with the nose ramp. For years I did IT work and hosted the website for DressenTrailers.com, now DCT-USA.com. I've owned or 'borrowed' many different flavors.

Barn doors in the rear swing open fully and store out of the way against the sides of the trailer. You can QUICKLY open and close just one, which helps keep flying snow and cold out in winter. You can step in and out needing only a foot or two of clearance in the rear.

A ramp on the rear requires 8 feet or so EXTRA length, plus you can't 'step' up into the trailer quickly - you always have to drop the ramp completely and then 'walk' up into the trailer. PITA for a site trailer, IMHO.

Ramps are great if you are loading and unloading rolling loads frequently, but they're even WORSE than an OverHead door at being a nuisance to enter and exit quickly, preserve heat, etc.

But everyone has their own preferences. I just told you mine - YMMV.
