A lot of load in a small area.

I have to purchase a new trailer today, hopefully I can find an 8/6x18. I'd really like barn doors on this one, but.....

Tom
Any luck? What is your reason for preferring barn doors? I had an old 12' u-haul for years with the overhead roll up door and it kinda sucked loading and unloading anything with wheels.

Yes------but no. I found one on the lot, a Rance 8/6x20 (aluminum with 5200 pound axles). Ramp door but I would have made it work. Went into the office to purchase it, they sold it Monday, being picked up tomorrow. They have 2 snowmobile 8/6x20's coming in, I'll look at one of those. I need it before the 8 week order lead time.

I have a ramp door 12'. I also have a set of aluminum ramps I can use with cargo doors.

Everything wow stated plus when loading with a forklift easier to get the load on the floor. From there a pallet jack to move the load.

Tom

Ended up with a ramp door. Can't wait the 10 weeks for a special order. Ended up 100 miles east to pick it up. Rance all aluminum 8/6x20.

My concern with 20' trailer being towed with a Chevy 1500 wood be the possibility of loading too much weight forward of the trailer axles. You need to keep most of the weight over the trailer axles, not forward. The chevy will probably have little problem towing the load, but the problem comes with too much weight on the hitch.  Too much weight transferred off of the front axle of the truck.  Even with four wheel braking on the trailer, you will have problems with stopping and steering. I think you are in level country, not like here in Connecticut where the trailer would definitely present problems under improper load setup.

I have a Chevy 1500 with factory tow package.  My equipment trailer is a rebuilt from 800# empty to 2500# when I reinforced the frame and A-frame.  Added built on tool boxes all around.  added 7200# axles and heavier planking.  The deck is 1" shy of 12' with ramps raised.  I have a 1200# mower, 200#+/- spreader and 300#+/- slicer/seeder that I haul with sometimes as much as 800# of seed and fertilizer on the truck.  Four wheel brakes on the trailer and factory suspension on the truck.  Short wheelbase/short body on the truck.  Auto tranny and that truck will pull any hill at 25mph, most hills I can maintain 30mph without undo strain.  I could pull the load on I-84 at well above 50mph with the small V-8 engine.  BUT, I don't go the high speed roads with such a load.  That load needs a lot of space to stop  I do pay attention to keeping the weight over the trailer axles and the truck loaded so weight is even over length of truck bed.  If not, the steering gets a little touchy.

If you do run into problems, I will be glad to take the trailer off of your hands.  Just drop it off any time, day or night ::)

What you need is a 2500HD Duramax with a tuner. You could ripp the hitch right of on the trailer on take off if not carful. A steep hill and 10000 pounds behind you even slow you down. I had one once and man what a rush that thing could be. I could pull a 35' trailer thru the mountains set the cruise and it didn't slow down for nothing.

With DuraMax, the load would not be so inclined to let the load run away on down grades either.  Save some of the heating of brakes.

Now I am looking at the 2500 HD. Does it ever end  lol

No sadly it does not ever end. When you reach the top of the hill it only gives you a better view of the next hill. Now I'am depressed.

Are those Stanley or another type of tote/divider under the Kapex (right side)?

I've purchased one of several brands/options lately but I just can't find something I like to keep all my random hardware sorted. I do use Viewtainers for my usual stock of screws, biscuits, etc.

They are the Dewalt locking storage containers. Much stronger than the Stanley. I use them for everything now, one for screws, one for Kreg, One for misc hardware etc. eliminated a few buckets of junk.

Used the trailer on a few jobs so far. The last one was a new custom front door that I had to pick up at Lowes for a customer. It was nice to be able to get the door in the trailer and head to the job with everything. Not dogging your work, but what a shame to cover up that nice front door with an ugly storm door.
Oh I agree. The home owner wanted it. I would have went with a white storm door to help it pop.

Love a good trailer set up
