Hi,

I see that Woodpeckers is offering two new items that may be very useful for positioning guide rails. One is a story stick- 36" T track with stops and engraved scales.  The other is an update of an older fence (LPT) with engraved scales.  I think there are some real possibilities for using these to repeatidly positioning guide rails. I some on here have done similar things with rules, and regular T track.

That's one of those "Why didn't I think of that?" ideas - the MFS of story sticks.  Thanks for the tip.  Mines on order!

Neat.  Usable as is, but I wish it had metric graduations.

Incremental Track can work better for our applications...  Far more accurate.

Hi,

Same site.  www.woodpeckers.com  They sell everything that Incra makes, plus there own line of complimentary and high quality stuff.

Hey,
Thanks for posting about this.  I've said this before, but if I count by number of items in my shop, and the pleasure I get from using them, Incra products are in second place after Festool!  I really like what they make, and how they make their products.  As discussed, this might be an interesting opportunity to connect Festool and Incra in a creative way.

If anyone does use this new item as a guide-rail positioner, please post about it.

Thanks,
Matthew

this looks like a great tool for making cab etc.  I think I wll buy one also. thanks for sharing

Oh well, bought one yesterday and then today I got an 'order status update' that its on backorder.  Hate it when that happens!!

The e-club newsletter that introduced this product stated that the product would ship Feb 6. I don't think that it's "backordered", rather, just a new product that won't be ready for ship till that date. I could use one right away also, but I'll have to wait too. Woodpeckers has some great products and some innovative ideas.

Sorry for the stupid question BUT how is this a help?  Repeatability?

Just a newbie to woodworking.  Be gentle.

Hi,

Yes, it could be quite useful for repeatability. Especially since every Woodpeckers measuring product I own so far is VERY accurate. This might be accurate enough to just set the size and go.  Also I can see possibilties for attaching it via the T track to the guide rail.

I would agree that Woodpecker products are nice, but for repeatability -- and even step-and-repeatability -- Incra's incremental track has a 'set it once and go' factor that simply cannot be duplicated with any in-line scale that you set by eye.  Well, that's my take anyway.  The incremental track can be setup with the scales offset to account for the guide rail such that in daily use you simply set the stop to the desired measurement.  Two incremental tracks used as story will only have to prove they're telling the same story once -- after that, again, just set each to the desired outcome and cut.

They make for a great fence too!

Hi Corwin,
I have Incra tracks on my chop saw & RAS station as well as a Incra table saw fence, miter gauge and router table system and I agree, for accurate repeatable setups they are hard to beat!

Sitting here at home not near the shop I am having trouble visualizing how to use/connect the tracks & stops with my MFT(s)

Do you have any photos or can you explain further.

Thank You,
Scott
