Hi all,

Looking for some techniques on how to best cut a 4x4 since I don't have a kapex and that my ts55 can't completely cut. I know I can carry the cut and flip the 4x4 and use the ts55. But is using a jigsaw with a long blade for this cut too dangerous?

Thanks

Doing it with a jigsaw isn't dangerous if you are appropriately careful.

The trick is to take your time and let the blade do the cutting. You also need to ensure that the blade is of adequate length (longer than the material you are cutting regardless of where the blade is in the stroke).

I would think the most successful and safest method would be to make multiple cuts with the TS55. The problem might be that you may need to make more than 2 cuts to get completely through. I"ve never cut a 4X4, only something thicker than the capacity of the TS55. I have done this on a table saw and a radial arm saw and didn't find it particularly unsafe, so I would think, with a TS55 it would be even safer. Since the cuts on the TS55 are superior to my old table saw, you might not even notice it was cut from both sides if care is taken.

I've cut 4" stock with my Carvex and a long blade just fine- go slow and play with the speed and feed to get the optimum cut

Old school, be a man
cut with wormdrive flip
cut center with handsaw, your biceps will like you

Omg use a hand saw man. Not everything need to be done with a cord or battery attached

I still like the hand saw but, if he has hundreds or thousands of cuts to make, buy the Bosch 12" chop saw.  I don't recall the model but it was reviewed in Fine Woodworking magazine as a best buy for 12" non-sliders.

Yeah a little elbow grease ll do. A pull saw is very nice for this. You still have to flip your piece to keep it square but a pull saw is awesome compared to a "push" or push/pull hand saw.
