hi, i would like to purchase OF1010 router. can anyone tell me if it comes with an 8mm collet or 1/4 inch collet.
I live in queensland, australia. maybe someone from australia has bought one and can tell me which collet comes standard.
BTW, i have been reading this forum for a few months now and it is fantastic. another great reason to keep buying festool!

Go here:

OF1010 Router

It states it includes:

8mm (488755, for metric shank bits available from Festool) and 1/4" collets

Plus:

SYSTAINER CONTENTS

    * Guide stop (guide rail attachment, 488752)
    * Guide bushing adaptor (469625)
    * Chip catcher (493180)
    * Collet Wrench
    * #3 Systainer (Festool Case, 445596)

So you get both collets

Not so fast Nick, the poster lives in Queensland, Australia. I believe the 1010 comes with the 8 mm collet only in Australia but I'm not sure.  Justin, we have a few members from Australia that can answer this for sure, they'll chime in soon, or you can e-mail Anthony a Festool dealer in Australia. anthony@idealtools.com.au

Welcome,

In any case,  you will love the OF 1010

good choice

Don't forget to get it before the price goes up !

If they don't include both collets like they do here in the USA it is a slap in the face!

What possible reason could they have for not including it? Oh I guess to charge another 20.00.

I see now why the guys out of the US get  ticked off.

We get a 30 day, they do not. We get the tools cheaper even when the taxes are not factored in. Now you are telling me they may get less accessories  and pay more money than us?

WTF?

Router with just a 1/4" collet    OF1010 EBQ

Kit with both collets
      Festool set with guide rail

Festool Australia only list the 1/4" collet on the page above and I can not even bring myself to print what they want for the second collet. Looks like one set includes 6-8mm collet. I am not sure if that is two collets or not.

Hopefully the Festool Australia site is wrong. They do sell in different sets so maybe there is another set that includes both collets somewhere.

From what I can tell they have to purchase a set that includes more than  the router(has guide rail and some other stuff) and then they do get the 6-8mm collet and a 1/4" collet.

I can see why the guy does not know the site is not very clear on it.

Looks like AUS gets a 1+2 warranty at least

thank you for the fast responses. i have 5 festool dealers within 100 kilometres of where i live, not one of them has the OF 1010 in stock since december 08. i hope it comes with 8 mm collet as standard because i will be using this router for a recently purchased leigh D4R. i have also been thinking about purchasing the OF 1400 for the leigh FMT. any leigh users out there that would recommend either router for either jig?  all comments appreciated. i have read all the posts on this website but i can not find a definite answer as to which router is best suited for leigh D4R and FMT jigs. i am currently using festool OF 2000E but i think it is overkill for what i am trying to achieve with these jigs. i also prefer to keep the OF 2000E in my trailer for general site work. i dont like wasting time changing cutters/ blades because i am a contractor carpenter.

For the DR4 the 1010 is fine, but for the FMT I would go with the larger 1400.

If you are making big tenons and mortise in a hard wood you are better off with the bigger unit. For the DR4 you really will never need much more power than the OF1010 has. I guess if you have to get one I would go with the OF 1400. But either router will work for both.

Check this out in case you have not seen it:

Routers needed for the FMT jig

and this for the DR4, they recommend a  1.5 to 2.5 hp unit:

Routers and guide bushings needed for the DR4 jig

You are making a fine choice on both these items and I would get the same myself if I had work to warrant it. I also would get the Akeda dovetail jig if I wanted to pump out a ton of drawers for production and had money for two dovetail jigs.

With a festool router and these two jigs you can not go wrong.

It really depends on what you are doing, but I would prefer to have the OF1400.  If you use the Leigh bits, which I highly recommend, the larger bits are 1/2' shank.  I use them quite often.

based on what you have told me nick, i shall be buying the OF 1010 for the D4R. and in a few weeks (when i have won the lottery!) or probably shed more blood, sweat and tears!  i shall be buying the OF 1400 for the FMT. i had a gut feeling this was the best way to go. its great to get advice from people who have been there and done that already!
Mail orders in australia are not a free service, it would cost me $25-$35 to get a delivery and you would pay a premium as well. i prefer to talk face to face with the dealers, i also like getting discount! as far as 1/2 inch shanks go, i would like to go in that direction but i have invested a lot of money in 8mm shanks.
thanks guys for the great advice.

I live in Australia and just bough an OF1010 from Just Tools in Melbourne, they keep both routers in stock.

When I purchased the router I discovered it is supplied with only 1/4" collet in Australia, I was also a bit annoyed as I've invested money into 8mm shank router bits. So I had to wait another week, and pay another $50 for the 8mm collet.

Also does anyone know what is the correct blow mould spot in the supplied systainer for the additional collet?

P.S Just Tools honoured my quote I got before the World Economic Crisis, even though the Festool AUS website showed approx $15 increase in price.

Cheers

hi sammy, i bought OF1010 in brisbane last week, cost me AU$700 and i paid AU$54 for the 8mm collet. great router, can be a bit tricky to tighten the collet when using the guide bush and leigh dovetail bit.
not sure about the systainer moulding, i just made my own router bit/collet nuts box using my leigh jig, hours of fun, very steep learning curve at the minute, lots of tearout because i am using plywood.
when i have made something that i am willing to put my name to, i will be happy to show on this forum.
