I've got a 35mm cutter I use with my of 1010 router to cut hinge holes for concealed hinges. I'm about to change the old doors on a kitchen and thought I would make a jig to use with a 40mm copy ring (guide bush). That's the maximum size the of 1010 will take, but the internal size is only 37mm so only 1mm clearance all round. Has anyone used a 35mm cutter with the 40mm copy ring and was it ok ??

i havent  done it on a festool router but have on others.
it wasnt a 35mm bit but the clearence was very small all around.
it should be ok but the dc wont be very good because these wont be enough airflow through that small gap.

you could put a trend unibase on the 1010 and a larger bush.

or buy a bigger router.

i mounted my 35mm bit in a small cheap morticer and use it like a blum minipress.
it works great.

Yeah I've got a drill press in the shop but wanted to use my router on site. I've got a big dewalt 626 but I think that only goes up to a 40mm guide bush too.

I suppose I could just make a jig that fixes to the router base rather than use a guide bush.

Chris

Just fix the jig to the router no need for a guide bush you would just need to swap a stop from one side of the router when you have done one hand of all the doors

Yeah that's what I think I'm gonna do. I'm off tomorrow (backs playing up again) so I will have a play up the workshop.

No problem about that small space. I have just finished a couple of projects with that setup. If you are careful and leave the plastic cover on top of the bit and do not depress all the way back you will not have a single particle of dust in the room.
And use speed setting 1

My quick little jig I knocked up out of 6mm mdf and some oak. It works well it seems to stay still while drilling but you can clamp it if you're worried. Totally dust free too ;D . If I was making a permanent jig I would use lexan maybe and I would put a scale on the side under the plunge knob so you can easily see how far in from the top/bottom of the door you are drilling.
