OF1400 Depth Scale Replacement

I got my OF1400 after the switch to imperial depth scales, but fortunately the only difference between the machines in the stick on depth scale and Festool USA can provide you with a metric scale. Before I dive into this a wondered if anyone has experience removing the depth scale. The new scale is adhesive backed and I assume that the old one is as well. How easily does the scale come off? Any tips?

I just requested an OF1400 Metric scale from Festool USA.

They're currently on backorder but expect to have more soon.

The lady in customer service told me I had to send the router in for conversion and the cost would be $75.

I asked to speak to someone in service and Brett explained it was just a sticker.  Part number is 462622.

For what it's worth, the scale for an OF1010 actually screws on and has to be replaced.

When I got my replacement scale I simply peeled off the old scale and stuck the new one on. The replacement scale came with a peel and stick back. Super simple.

I fully understand how it can be super easy to peel off one sticker and put on another, but does accuracy suffer?  My thought is that it would be very easy to be "off" by a millimeter or two when you put the new sticker on.  Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this?

Accuracy won't suffer. There is a "rabbet" where the sticker goes that should index it, and on top of that it is a relative setting. The absolute worst that you might do is get it placed so that you ran out of scale at one end or the other and I don't think that is too likely given the rabbet.

Replacing the OF1010 scale is super easy. Easier than the 1400, I think.

Thanks, did the same. It was way easier than I expected – almost no adhesive residue. The new one registers nicely and the adhesive seems to be quite forgiving.

When you use a route scale it's typically a relative measurement. You install the bit, plunge until the bit makes contact with the material, zero out the scale, then set your cut depth.

On top of the registration recess for the new scale you can use the calibration screw on the depth stop flag and get it bang on.  Sedge posted a short video tip on this a while back.
