I’m thinking of getting the OF1400 and MFS, and I need some advice on other “must have” items to order along with them.  I already have the MFT and a spare 1080 guide rail.  BTW, I'm not interested in the hole drilling set right now (maybe a future purchase).  Here are some of my thoughts on what to order, but I would like your input:

MFS 400 or MFS 700-Which one to get?  I’m planning on getting the 1000 mm extension profiles, so is it really that useful to order the MFS 700 over the MFS 400?  The MFS 700 is $129 more than the MFS 400.

Bag of V nuts and set screws 493235 (mentioned on page 26 of Jerry Work’s manual)

Guide Stop 492601

Hard Fiber Base 492574

What else would you recommend?

I can not locate your referenced part number.  Could you check to make sure it is correct?

Thanks.

I agree, when doing a search for part number 493235 on the Festool site, it returns no result.  However, that is the part number referenced by Jerry Work on page 26 of his MFS manual http://www.festoolusa.com/Web_files/MFS_Jerry_Work.pdf.

This is where you discover how good your Festool dealer is. The awesome ones will have already gotten the MFS for a knowledgeable customer and know where to find this part #, the good ones will dig on this until they figure out that it's available from the replacement parts division, not from the main catalog, and the poor ones will say "huh?".

Mine was the order that kicked my dealer from "good" to "awesome", but I almost bailed on them and called Bob Marino...

Spare parts are not shown on the regular Festool website.  Try here:

www.ekat.festool.com

You will find the parts kits for the MFS there.  Also, if you call Festool parts, they know which MFS parts you are looking for.

Dave,

That doesn't appear to be a valid link.

Sorry Dan you're right.  Drop the www -- the link ishttp://ekat.festool.com.

Only problem is the catalog will not allow you to order from it.

The parts catalogue is not designed to order from it.  It is to identify part nos for various tools.  You must call Festool and order parts directly from them.

Dave,

You are correct, replacement parts are not listed in the catalog, but in the parts "catalog".

I have just purchased the MFS400 and have the OF1400. The MFS400 works great as an accurate square with my MFT1080 and for doing band inlays (as per Jerry Works manual).
When using it as an accurate square, I use the 400 in conjunction with the MFT existing fence and have stuck a tape measure to the fence which provides quick and accurate repeat measurements. As I have only one MFT1080 I think the 700 would limit the size of panels I could cut , whereas the 400 gives me great repeatable accuracy and using the existing MFT1080 fence and stop saves me from purchasing the MFS1000 profile. One limitation is that you can't easily reverse the MFS400 so the measurements are on the "outside" (as per Jerry Works method)as the hexagon tool is too long to fit into the profile adjusters on the short 200 sides as they are then moved  on the "inside"  of the rectangle. Its possible to use an Allen key but accuracy is compromised in my view. I leave it in the normal (scales inside rectangle mode ) and use an accurate square to align the scale on the 400 with my tape measure on  the fence.
It is a cinch to use for band inlays and for other rectangular or square free field inlays I have found.
I have also recently purchased a CT22 with boom arm which I find has helped to stabilise edge routing operations with the OF1400.
I haven't done any circle cutting yet but other previous reviews on this site have indicated the 400 is easier to use than the 700 depending on your radius of course.

Hope this info helps

Barry

I got the MFS 400 because it was less expensive.  I also bought a single 1000 rail from Bob, who was willing to split the pair package (once again).  Unfortunately, I haven't really had time to use it yet (although I've read Jerry's MFS manual a number of times "warming up", so to speak).

There's a rumor that Festool will start making the 400 and 700 rails (as well as the existing 1000's) available separately from the kits.  If that is the case, why not get the 400 for all the good reasons Barry suggested and when you add the 700 rails later you will have both sets.

Dave

Dave,
I couldn't agree more. The availability of separate 700 rails would make the whole package much more flexible and could also be used as a story stick as per Jerry Works manual.
cheers

Barry
