I noted the suggestion in a current thread regarding an OSMOCOAT product, that prior to oiling, tanin rich wood should be wiped down with methylated spirits.
At present I am experimenting in laminating re-machined recycled Merbau decking. If this experiment works it could be part of the in and out feed tops of a permanent compound saw bench in the Untidy Shop.
When used for decking, Merbau is bleached with proprietary cleaners prior to oiling. Sanding even old wood re-releases tannin. However I think these products will affect the glue. I am using a waterproof PVA.
So I think the use of spirits has merit; what do others think?
