I bought on old Kapex saw. Details here -https://www.festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tools-accessories/old-kapex-worth-it/. I ended up getting the saw for $400.

I'm now in the process of refurbishing it. Good news is, the table and fence are dead flat and I've figured out and addressed some of the issues described in the other post.

At this point, the only thing that's concerning me is that the slide action is NOT smooth unless the saw is completely lowered (and even then, it could be smoother). I removed the saw itself, cleaned up the bars and applied a dry lubricant, cleaned the gunk out of the bearings and reinstalled. No improvement.

I then tried each bar separately by installing the saw turned 90 degrees. The left bar, which is the longer one with two linear bearings, is glassy smooth. However, the right bar - the one with knob to tighten to lock the slide action - is VERY tight even with the locking knob completely removed.

I'm thinking the clamping collar may be deformed a bit, meaning it's not fully releasing even with the knob completely removed.

I have a slide hammer and various bearing pullers, so I hodge-podged a setup and was able to get the bearings to move about 1/8", but stopped because I was afraid I was going to ruin something.

Has anyone replaced the clamping collar/linear bearings yourself before? Would love to hear about your experience. Thanks.

Update...the clamping collar is the issue.

Got the clamping collar out with an inside bearing puller. There was just barely enough of a lip to grab. One hit with the slide hammer and it was out.

I didn't look bad/out of round, and it fit on the slide bar no problem. But sure enough, when I tested the saw without it, it was as smooth as I'd expect.
