This has been in my possession twice now, never even wired up by anyone in the last 6 years.

Oliver 66-AC sliding gap bed pattern lathe.

Does 8'6" opened up. 

5hp, two speed motor gives one 16 available speeds.

And how many steady-rests do you need?

I assumed it was something for the USN.

That lathe is actually still around and in the possession of a machinery dealer/collector.
