Accumulated enough scrap plywood to fab up some Sysports------I cheated-------used the AZ drawers. I wanted mine mobile so how I installed the wheels.

Starts with a good template. [attachthumb=1][attachthumb=2][attachthumb=21]

Router with bushing and bit, fostner bit for counter bore.[attachthumb=3][attachthumb=4]

Boring the bottom, set depth to avoid penetration of the bottom of the port.[attachthumb=5]

Ez-Loc threaded inserts, 1/4-20x13 mm, set with 6 mm allen driver.[attachthumb=6][attachthumb=7][attachthumb=8]

Inserts installed.[attachthumb=9][attachthumb=10]

1/4-20 round head bolt, wheels installed.[attachthumb=11][attachthumb=12]

Top bored through to join stacked ports. Use wheel template for alignment to inserts.[attachthumb=13][attachthumb=14]

1/4-20x 1-1/4" flathead bolts to secure stack.[attachthumb=15]

Stacked [attachthumb=16]

Loaded[attachthumb=17][attachthumb=18]

What code violation [wink][attachthumb=19]

The inserts[attachthumb=20]

Waiting for a few more drawers to arrive. About another 16 of these ports and all the Sys's will be off the floor or being stack on shelfs (except the 6 Maxi Sys). One drawback to the T-Lock Systainers is you have to lock the Sys to close the drawer. I may remove the latch while they're in the ports.

Damn, that's a lot of Pepsi. Nice Sysports too! They are on my list.

My wife's vice. I don't drink Pepsi or very much pop for that matter.

I got so tired of wasting time stacking and unstacking to get to what I needed. Seemed the one I needed was always on the bottom.

Wow Tom, those look fantastic.  What's the height to the top of the stack?

And are you going to attach them side-to-side for a bit more stability when moving them?

I installed 5 of the Sys AZ drawers in a cabinet I made on wheels.  Really like them.  And they make building a Sysport that much quicker!

About 6'2". No I will not be joining the side by side. I installed full backs, they're very stable.

Yes, the AZ's are really nice. Not sure they cost much more by the time I built drawers and added the hardware.

Looks good Tom. I like the detailed write up. You know me, I'd rather follow instructions than invent myself...

One day...

Can we get this guy banned ??? [big grin] [big grin].

Thanks Travis. Figuring things out is the best part of my day, the doing is mundane and boring.

But you're smart, I'm not... I tend to like the doing. Even framing in the hot sun (past two days)

I did tell Dad I was sweating too much for my pay grade...  [big grin]

Great job Tom.  Did you estimate the cost per unit stack?  I have one Sysport and a few stack that I also get tired of needing the bottom one.

I have been pondering the cost vs just buying another Sysport at $650.

To make these 5 ports it took 64 square feet of plywood. I can by the unfinished 3/4 maple ply for $42.00 per sheet.

Edge banding- 100' $4.55 (had this eft over also, thats why it's a different species)

1 gallon of KA+ $32.50

There will be 25 drawers (waiting for another box to arrive) @ $200.00 for 20-$207.00 for 5.

12 casters @ $14.87 each (I had these already from another project).

Bolts $7.77 for 100 1/4-20x3/4- used 48

Bolt 8.97 for 100 1/4-20x1-1/4- used 12

2 sheets of plywood    $84.00
Edge banding                $4.55
AZ drawers              $1007.00
12 casters                $178.44
Caster bolts                  $3.70
Connection bolts          $1.08
Finish                    $32.50
Sub total            $1311.27
Tax                        $91.78
Total                      $1403.05

About $280.61 for each port plus my time which I spread out.

Thanks Tom,

Thats less than half the cost of a Sysport but without the excess plywood on hand and limited space in my shop to do multiple projects at the same time the cost of the Sysport might not be too bad if I only need two.

Great work and thanks for posting,

Jack

Those sysports look great.  Why the different prices on the sys AZ drawers?

I got some before the price increase, the current order is after the price increase.

I know this is an old thread, but I see you are still posting daily.  I really like your shop built sysports.  The wheel installation is not something I would have come up with on my own, so if course I am going to copy that.  It is a lot easier to let you do the designing.  [laughing]

I was wondering if you have any problems with the stacked units on wheels being top heavy or "tippy" when you open the drawers with heavy Festool tools.  I just completed six 40-inch upper cabinet boxes that look similar to yours, and when they were stacked 2 high in the garage, I thought a tall rolling cabinet would be a better.  The AZ instruction sheet shows max height of 1000 mm for the cabinets, which made me concerned.
