osmo question

Seems like people here give it good reviews so I bought some osmo polyx hard wax oil to try on Ash and it gave it a distinctive yellowish tint. I also tried it on soft maple and no tint whatsover that I can tell.

ToolsForworking wood sells Osmo Polyx Oil Effect Neutral 3041 but doesn't have a smaller size available to purchase. Wondering if anyone used it on Ash and what it's effects are. Description says it offsets ambering. I'd like to preserve the whiteness while enjoying the grain.

I have not tried the 3041 Neutral on ash, but it works very well on white oak. The natural color definitely yellows, while the neutral does not. We just used it throughout the house and love both the color, the feel, and the lack of sheen.

My only concern is that it does not seem to hold up well to water stains. We used it in the kitchen and after 3 weeks there are noticeable spots that I can't clean. I'm considering sanding, redoing the Osmo, and then covering it with a more protective finish in the high-use area. I'd love to hear if anyone has done this, or has had a better experience with water stains.

I would be inclined to test it, regardless of what feedback you get.  The way they describe it, it uses a white dye or tint to offset the yellowing effect of the oil.  You may not be 100% satisfied with the result or the wood you are using may yield a different result from what you see in pictures or someone else's experience.

Bona has a similar product and you can get sample sizes as well.
