My kapex broke down today :( the flap thing at the back that allows you to bevel the saw? something in it broke. I'm permanently stuck on 35 degrees. I need my saw for Monday!!! (it's Sunday 3 P.M.  here in Western Canada)

I took a picture the "flap" and emailed my dealer. Not even five minutes later he calls me, yup- got the part no problem, easy fix. Open at 9 A.M.

Who the he%% else in the tool world would give outstanding service like that? on a Sunday afternoon?

Hats off to Dan Clermont of Ultimate Tools, Burnaby B.C. Canada.

Exciting update: got to my dealer at 9, he put the part on and I was out the door by 9:05. cost? 2 bucks!!! wow. I was mentally prepared for a $150 tab! LOL

Hmmm well the darned thing broke again! something else is causing this, I can't see two hinges breaking within two weeks.

Edit: called the Festool repair place in Ontario (Canada) left a msg. I hope it get solved quickly, I've got three jobs on the go and I have to depend upon my kapex. Stress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like something in the action is messed up, it shouldn't take much pressure to move it.  Did service get back to you? Was it tough to move even with the new part on there (before it broke)

OT: Another cudos to Dan @ Ultimate, I've bought just about all of my Festools from him and the service is second to none, even with options in town local to me I still order from him.

yes, the part is on, and it's really stiff to move the flap. I am still under warranty (till Sept) so the guys at  Ultimate tools recommended that I send the saw into service for a do-over. seems that the brushes are also almost gone as well, so what the heck. Going to cost me $65 bucks, but that's cheap when you think that I'll be getting back an almost new saw.

It's just got to get through today, I've got 5 miters to cut to finish the job that I'm on. I move the flap really slooooowly so I don't break it again.

Might have to get a 12" saw this weekend, to hold me over because I've got more work coming in so I can't be without a saw of some sort.

Ok, so one week without my kapex, I'm beginning to shake LOL

I needed a backup saw, so I watched the Canada Day flyers in my area, and found a HUGE yellow saw - double tilt, full slider etc. It was on for 429 and change. I then went over to home depot, they had what appeared to be the same saw. They called the "other guys" and asked the model number. Two sales people later he was told that they don't give out model numbers over the phone.

Ok, so I was passing buy the "other guys" a day later so I stopped in. Yup, it is a different model number - 782, not the 780. Darn! so I called the guy at HD and said thanks anyway but it's not the same model #. It actually is essentially the same saw, just some very minor tweaks, stripped down version of the 780.

Guy at HD says what the heck we'll match it anyway. Ok, so over I go. I get to the till and he says we will knock off 10% YA! got it for 386 and change. 12" monster!

Made a stand, bought a Forrest chop master blade, and I`m back in business.

I`ve gotta say I miss the smooth kapex! and the jump at the start, OH YEA and it says it collects 70% of the sawdust HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA  ahem. really that's what it says.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...... cough cough.... I've gotta sit down now....

once you've had a Cadillac it's hard to go back to a yugo.

Ouch, that would be rough. I've got to wonder though if you aren't planning on keeping the DeWalt once you get the Kapex back if the depreciation on a new Kapex might be less than that on a DeWalt. Or are you going to hold on to it for the odd time you need more capacity? I love my Kapex, I need to upgrade my vac setup and just wish I could get a CT-MIDI up here again, I don't want to have 2x CT26's.

yup, keeping the dewalt. There are times that I need the capacity of a 12" saw. Last week cutting some 6x6's for a fence for example. Not too often, but I now have a backup in case of theft/breakdown etc.
