Pattern Routing with VAC-SYS - Anyone done it yet?

Hi all,
I have an upcoming project that will involve pattern routing and my new VAC-SYS holds great promise.  I've picked up from
the learned folk in the VAC-SYS threads that one drills a 1/4 hold in the patter, places it on the pod, then adds the workpiece - perhaps with a bit of weather stripping between the two.

Any other advice before I embark on this project??  Always better to go into something new with some idea of the likely pitfalls. [big grin].

BTW - I have found out already that my favorite pattern material - Home Depot MDF is worthless for VAC-SYS use, won't hold a vacuum.  Lumberyard MDF works fine, though.  This may be due to my relatively high altitude (6,000 feet).

I have not used the VAC-SYS to pattern route---yet.

I do not make my patterns out of MDF, I find the edges to "soft". I use HDPE or 3/8" plywood.

As of late I've been using hot glue to secure patterns. Place making tape on the pattern and on the piece to be worked so they are aligned. Hot glue on the tape, push the pieces together. When done the tape will pull off as you pry the parts apart.

I've been making multiples off up to 150+ pieces using vacuum jigs for the past 20+ years.  Most of my patterns are dedicated to one piece type but I have used smaller ones to hold bigger ones.  I use stick on neoprene weatherstrip for the seal.  I make my patterns from 3/8" acrylic but any impervious material will work.  In full disclosure, we distribute plastic and stock up to 1/2" in acrylic and polycarbonate.
