[attachimg=3][attachimg=2]Hi

I have recently been trying to find the best solution for my small workshop for dust extraction.

I wanted to have one extractor rather than multiple for use with the static kapex 120 and to also use for my domino xl, ts55 and 1400 router.

I came up with this solution below, i am awaiting some adapters etc but this shows the general idea.

I wanted a simple and adaptable system and for the extraction hose to be in the middle of the workshop so it  would enable a detachable hose for the ts55 etc to be used when needed then moved out of the way when not

i used the festool y adapter and two blast gates. i simply used duct tape to join the same size ends and have the appropriate ends on order

I too have been working on a solution for the permanent or semi-permanent setup. One or two people have spotted the prototype in my last couple of videos. The finished version is almost complete - I am awaiting a couple of bits to complete the system. The 63 mm blast gates are the key. I will produce a video in the not too distant future.

Hi peter

Yeah I saw it, it looks a great idea.

Hope to see it soon.

P.s your videos are great. Very clear and well done.

Are those blast gates the ones from Axminster? I've looked at them a few times & thought they might fit the Festool hoses...

Hi

Yes they are. I saw them while in my local shop.

Glad it's a 30 minute drive as if it was nearer I woul be poor!

Great solution to an irritating situation.

Nice to have an organised and safe work environment now

It may not matter to you, but the last time I checked with Axminster, their plastic gates were not made of anti-static material. Perhaps they've been upgraded, but if this is important to you, it would be worthwhile checking.

I did find some alternative gates that are AS, but I haven't got around to ordering them or building out the system. Perhaps Peter's upcoming post will inspire me!

If anyone is interested, the Camvac 2.5" blast gate is confirmed as AS and available from a few places including at http://www.turners-retreat.co.uk/machinery/camvac-dust-extraction/accessories/2-1-2-blast-gate-clear

It has a 63mm external diameter and a 58mm internal diameter according to the manufacturer, which seems like quite a thick material wall to me, but without one in my hand, I can't confirm. If true, it should be ideal for use with the Festool hoses.

Hi Garry

I have just tried to contact Camvac to ask a few questions. From the out of office response from their sales email address I gather that they are a one man (person) band. They have an association/connection to Anglian Chemicals which sell janitorial products. There are other small companies linked and with the same post code. All of them have an 0844 telephone number which, I am told by Radio 4, puts off 35-55% of potential customers.

When I am ready to publish my video I will provide all of the information about the parts used and their compatibility with Festool hoses - and hopefully no gaffer tape fixes.

Peter

I forgot to put

When it comes to solving a solution sometimes the simplest one is the best

Why over engineer something when duct tape works

N.b there's always one...always one

LOL! You jumped to a number of conclusions there Peter, but I can assure you, Camvac are not a one man (person) band and indeed manufacture very well regarded extractors used by the woodworking community. Give them a Google, and you'll see lots of reviews and feedback.

They don't really sell direct to the public through an ecommerce site or similar, so that may be why they aren't geared up to respond quickly, but there are plenty of places that stock them. Toolpost would be another good one to try http://www.toolpost.co.uk/pages/Health___Safety/Dust_Extraction/CamVac_Accessories/camvac_accessories.html

Hi Garry,

I did get a response in the end and they confirmed that their blast gates and other 2.5" ducting are not anti-static and not sourced in the UK. I suspect that they import from the same source used by Axminster as the parts look pretty similar.
