Philly area contractors for sagging garage roof?

I can't think of a better place to ask this advice, so I hope this is okay. New very old house. Detached 3 car garage. The front of the garage is sagging - meaning the beam that runs across the garage, just over all three doors. From inside you can see someone hacked out parts of the beam right over the center door for some half baked repair or who knows what. I'm pretty handy, but know my limits and any attempt to fix this myself (and well meaning friends) would surely result in a nightmare. Would a roofer be the best place to start or is there a specific type of contractor I should look for?

Believe it or not I have had very good luck with using Angieslist ratings for electricians, painters, plumbers and masons.

On a related topic, how many times do we all curse our former owners and/or the people they hired to do these awful "repairs"? Man, the things I have seen in all our houses...

I would think a framing contractor would be closer to the mark. The roofing contractors I've encountered don't do anything below the sheathing. YMMV though.

I curse the PO of my house regularly, as I understand it, he was in the building trade even, but he left amazing "time bombs". (though lots of reasons to buy new tools )

I hope and pray that whoever has  my house after me doesn't feel the same way about my inputs.

I’ll PM you a name. My parents had their roof done by the company about twenty years ago and haven’t had any issues. They were given the name by another roofer who admitted they weren’t the best for the particular job.

Thanks to both of you. A neighbor just told me this sag has been here for a long time, so it is not so a pressing issue (and a new kitchen is the top priority). I'm going to try and study up on this and be as informed as possible. A friend of mine who is skilled, though not in framing said it was possible to address the sag slowly so as to avoid a new roof (it is slate tile...). Ugh.

Pixelated, I bet your next owners will appreciate your work. While not perfect, we put a lot into our old house and the new buyers were appreciative. On top of that their realtor says she never saw a cleaner house at final sale.
