Pinwood Carving

I am starting this years Pinewood Derby project with my son.  This year we are replicating a Bugatti Veyron. I am looking for some advice on carving out the brake vents on the side of the car and the engine in back..  I have no carving tools, just the typical chisels, files and sandpaper.  Would a Dremmel Style grinder work? Any advice on this project would be greatly appreciated

Yes, a Dremel would be well-suited for this type of work. When I was building model ships, I used a Dremel stylus extensively. The battery charger quality is poor and the tool will not stand up to any hard use, but it is good for model building. Proxxon also make a good rotary tool.

Where the rear quarter panels flare behind the rear wheels keep your maximum allowable width in mind. Hate to see the car disqualified because it is too wide. Otherwise it looks awesome.

Thanks, I just ran down to the Home Depot and picked up a couple of carving bit for an old Dremmel multi-pro that I dug out of the shop.  So far it is working real nice.  Much easier and faster then shaping my sandpaper.  It gets a good rough start.

The rules state you cannot be any wider then 2.5".  The exact width of the car is now 2.5" Thanks.
