I need to refinish all the interior doors in my house and I am not sure on what type of clear finish would polish up to a high gloss well. I have used polyurathane in the past and a few of the frames are now done that way. I would like to stick with the poly if possable.

Also what polishing pad should I use and with what polishing compound? I would be useing an ETS 150/3 for this.

Thanks
Paul

As far as I am concerned, polishing is a opinion.

It is not a exact science and different people will have different results

depending on products applied, location, and patience with cure time.

With that disclaimer out of the way, I am of the opinion that polyurethane sucks.

It is also my experience that "poly" is a label attached often to different products.

I would try to use a High end varnish, or one of the Target Coatings WB products that

fit your circumstances. http://www.targetcoatings.com/

Then see Jerry Works manual here...http://jerrywork.com/

Now, with the 150 3, I would use the soft felt, then go straight to lambs wool.

But... thats me.  What you really want is the Rotex.

I hope this helps a little.

Paul, I think Per got it right. I'm no polishing expert, in fact I go out of my way to avoid doing it. A well applied gloss poly (or other finish) will give you great results without the time and hassle of polishing. Good luck.

All good advice, Thanks guys.
I think I will just let it be and forget polishing. They a just plain doors anyway.

Let me see if I can clear one of my statements up.

Poly doesn't polish well.

It works for its purpose.

And not all polys are a bad thing.

Bartleys wipe on varnish is a poly.

Though it only comes in satin.

What I refer to and try to stay away from are any of the

polys you might find at the big boxs.
