was rather excited about getting some benchdogs to fit the MFT, to enable perfect right angle cutting using the 55 & a guide rail...... I'ma bit miffed to find the holes in the new mft top are approx 20.17 mm rather than the old 20mm........ doesnt sound like a huge difference but the dogs are pretty loose now & cuts arent square... I've shimmed them out with some tape & fixed from underneath with M8 bolts but i've had to check for square and adjust. It's quite a pain & kind of defeats the point of the dogs as it's neither quick nor super accurate without constant checking...............anyone else encountered this problem, or have any suggestions  ?.................Cheers..........H

mft lp 1080.......... the dogs are made  by a uk engineering company ( haven't got the info to hand )...... i called the guys who sold me the  top & they measured the holes on another they had. They came out at 20.15 - 20.17 mm, so i think the problem lies in the extra hole size rather than the accuracy of the dogs. This allows the dogs to tilt a little when stock is pushed against them......... a permanent way to shim all round, coupled with M8 bolts would solve the problem.

My understanding was that the original 1080 tops had oversized holes but the new replacements and the mft/3 tops had precisely 20mm holes. Perhaps they sold you old stock?

it was actually shipped from festool in Germany ( had to wait a week for it ), so i doubt it was old stock. Another supplier told me they think festool are using a new manufacturer, although i dont know whether thats true or not......... anyway........ thats all by the by.......... just looking for a way to make what ive got work  [wink]

It  would become problematic if they have a new manufacturer and if the holes are slightly larger. Many of us, specifically including myself, have a lot invested in the 20mm precision dogs and if the holes are larger going forward it will wreak a bit of havoc.

I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone else chimes in with similar issues.

well............ the holes are most certainly OVER 20mm............. my supplier measured a dozen holes on a brand new top with electronic calipers. None of them were less than 20.15mm........... I phoned festool UK to ask them. They said they'd check & get back to me in hour max........ they didn't call back, which has p***ed me off a bit. I don't mind spending money on tools but I expect a bit of service in return
