I have two Festool Sanders and the Domino. The power cord is interchangeable between these three. I just purchased the track saw and the plug has a unique shape. I cannot use the power cord from my original three tools. Reason?

The higher amp tools such as the saws and the routers have a larger amp draw and require a larger conductor cord.  That is why the special end.  Yes you can use those with the lower draw tools (and many of us just use those) but you can't do the reverse.

The tool with the "odd" plug it cord is the track saw TS 55 REQ. The cord supplied with it will fit the domino and sanders but not the other way around. I should have included pictures but that's above my pay grade at the moment.

Thank you for your responses.

Yup, they are designed that way to prevent using the lighter gauge cord in the higher amp draw tools. It is OK though to use the heavier gauge cord on all the tools.

USA had to be the odd one out using half the voltage... so it doubles the current. That requires fatter cable. To not bother with a heavy cord with the lighter tools, Festool made a thin and a thick version for the US. In Europe we only have the thin version and it serves everything.

This bit me once, years ago. I grabbed up my CT and a few tools to take to my daughter's house and picked up the wrong cable. It worked for the sander, but not the saw. Since then I have always stored the lighter cords in a drawer and keep a pair of the heavier ones out and connected to both of the CTs.

Ok. CRG just made the excellent case why the TS60 shouldn't have the Plug-it (at least for those of us who have other Plug-In tools)!!! [tongue]

NOOOO Chuck, just No  [big grin]
Having the higher amp cord that will come with the TS60, means that it will work with all of your other tools too.

The second advantage to having Plug-it, other than the main convenience factor, is replacement. If you ever damage a cable, it take two seconds to replace it. Whether that is from another tool you already have, or the dealer, there is no intrusion into the machine to replace it.
That is actually the reason I started storing all of the new cables and only using one (and later a second one for a second CT) I probably have 10 Plug-its and only ever use 2 of them. Maybe more I don't want to count [unsure]
