Primer recommendations for KDAT SYP

Getting ready to rebuild my rotted porch with SYP KDAT.  I see all sorts of conflicting advice on the web about primers.  Some say oil-based, others water-based.

Does anyone have any experience with either?  Are there products you recommend?
