Team,

First project using the Festool Domino.

Thank you everyone for all your help in this thread I started:http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tools-accessories/festool-domino-spacingalignment-question/

Really appreciate all the tips.

Definitely has a learning curve. I messed up numerous times but learned a ton, so, that's good :)

PS - post never succeeds when I have more than like 5-6 pictures :(. Anyone else hit this...?

Matt

Nice organizer.  You have this domino alignment method down now!

Since you are going into an existing drawer, on your next one, you could eliminate the bottom and just make the verticals to save both plywood and interior drawer depth.

Nice assortment of Systainers and Festool gear growing in the background!  Funny how the project list and tool list feed each other!

No better way to unlock the secrets of this game-changing tool than to use it.

By the way, you were basically building shelves and you could refer to the manual and build this with the method illustrated for the carcase/shelving, which is quicker and simpler than using the intersecting lines approach.

Thanks everyone! RE: shelves yes, agreed. I realized that. Still getting the hang of it. I am a very novice woodworker. Just trying to learn as much as possible.

I had such a hard time getting the mortises exactly centered on the plywood.

I would set the Domino to ~6mm height (1/2 the thickness of the .5 inch plywood (12mm)).

But it never came out centered. For this project didn't matter too much but I was trying to practice.

I suspect if the thickness of my wood matched one the of the Domino's pre-set little notch height things on the left of the unit and I wasn't eye-balling the scale, it would be much easier.

Hi Matt,

There is no need or advantage to centre the mortises; in fact, it is better to set them off-centre so that during dry fitting, you can tell if any face or side has been improperly oriented by mistake.

I absolutely agree with Chuck on this (having them offset) when there are reference faces to use, but this doesn't necessarily help for those dividers where you have drawn the centre line and mortised the drawer base to the centre line and expect the dividers to line up.

Anyway, it looks like you're really getting the hang of things and using the side reference marks, and clamping a guide to get all the holes in line with one another etc. Well done on upping your game - I'm sure you'll find it all useful for future Domino use.
