Hi everybody,

I recently acquire a PSB 420 and I have some trouble when I want to insert the splinter guard. As I understand, the jig saw need to be on when I insert it to cut it with the correct thickness of the blade. But the first time I try to do this, the splinter guard break in two parts when the blade start to cut it.

Have you ever had this kind of problem ?

Regards.

I don't have the festool jigsaw, but it sounds a little bit dangerous having the jigsaw on when putting the splinter guard on. My guess is that you slide the splinter guard on to the blade with the jigsaw off and have it just off the blade, so when the jigsaw is switched on it don't break the splinter guard. Then push against a hard surface to make the 0 clearance cut in it. Other members who have will be able to explain better

The correct way is indeed to insert the splinter guard so that it is in the groove and turn the machine on, and finally then using a flat surface push the guard into place so that the kerf is cut.

If the very end of the kerf cut in the guard becomes slightly widened during cutting, then you can plunge another 3 mm to cut just a new end.  That can be done only once.

Ok, thanks for you answers. That's what I did. But sliding the splinter guard into the groove was not as easy as it seems to be on the video. Then I need to push harder and the splinter guard break when the blade touch it.
I will retry with new one, but I'am afraid of doing this now ;)
