hi there
i was thinking of putting my collection of hole saws (small now but constintly growing as different types of jobs come up) in a systainer
i was thinking a sys 1 or 2.
what sizes do ye use  ( i have 8 - 10 between 20mm and 114mm), i dont want to allow for every size but dont want to run out of space either.
has any body out there put theres in a systainer.

i was thinking of using 2 layers of 12mm ply with a gap between them and drill holes in  the top layer to hold the  holesaw.
i was thinking of storing the 100mm and 114mm vitiaclly to save space.

you dont need much room as they stack inside each other.

as a side note i have just used the new style lennox hole saws, wow they are awesome, cut faster and cleaner and weight a hell of a lot less so are better for your drill

im not gone on putting them in each other as thay joggle around and blunten each other. also to get them out you have to take them all out.

i havent used the lennox ones . i usually buy the bahco ones from the local agri store or the dewalt ones from my local building merchints. is the material lighter or is there holes in it. sounds good for the bigger sizes

the material is thinner which means they cut faster. i dont mean put them all in each other just a few of the bigger uns as they take up so much room. i use a sys1 with a mini sys inside for piolet bits etc. works well for me and i clip it to the bottom of my t18 box

I don't know how stacked hole saws or side-by-side hole saws would dull the teeth.  I haven't seen that happen before and stacked hole saws don't even have the teeth at the same levels.  Here's the way Lenox makes theirs.

that looks like a nice set.
bet it was dear
i still think that mine would joogle around  and dull the sides of the teeth.

The idea of drilling spots with the holesaws to hold them seems like it would work. Or you could just mount dowels  to fit through the arbor holes.

I am thinking a Sys-I works, and if you ever get too many for it  just swap it out for a Sys-II and make it double layer.

If you use them frequently it would be nice to not have to unstack to get the one you want. You might consider a lid foam to keep them from bouncing. And to get the height to the foam right just add a piece under the bottom layer if needed.

Remember to allow places for the arbors etc.  Maybe a a Systainer with tthe storage (attic) lid?

Alan,

I'm interested in what you come up with!  Seth has good ideas ( As usual )  I think a big Sys. with a area for broken and stuck holesaws, not to mention large one for special installs.

You guys know that Ken cleans and spray paints his hole saws while he's Foggin, don't you?  [tongue]

Wow!  Now I'm takin' Brice's Armor All hits.  Just earlier, Peter was asking me if I ever used that Porter Cable saw I have for sale.  I'm gonna go play in the mud with my tools tomorrow to make you guys happy.  [tongue]

No pics...it didn't happen mud guy!  [poke]  Forget the mud wrestling internet capturing cut and paste or link pics.  You - your tool - fully clothed - wrestling in the mud - priceless.

Hey, hey hey....... this could be a two for......................

If you spray yourself  with armorall first, the mud will come off easier...............    [big grin]

3/8" x 4" carriage bolt
3/8" wing nut
3/8" fender washer.

i use lots of holesaws, up to 6 1/2"
i nest them inside each other, put a
carriage bolt thru them, with a wingnut and washer on top.

don't rattle, don't get dull.

I think they have the cubed foam available to put in systainers too -- maybe just from Tanos?

My main concern with that would be if tools/bits are oiled or greased... somehow I doubt the foam would like that very much?

i use holesaws a fair bit, in sizes from 7/8" to 4 1/2". i take all of them, and stack them inside of each other,
then put a 3/8" x 8" long carriage bolt thru the center, with a 3/8" fender washer and a wing nut on top to
hold them together and prevent rattling and resulting dull teeth. if they are nested inside each other, in
the back of a work van rolling down the road, they will jiggle, make noise, and get the teeth rounded over
ever so slightly. it's not as noticeable in wood, but try drilling thru a stainless steel electrical disconnect, and
you will discover a rude truth.
