Interesting tool, but it appears from the "pre-order" link, that it is a UK delivery item only
https://quadsaw.com

I suspect it is only a matter of time before someone starts selling it in the U.S.  After all, it is a purely mechanical item, no electrical considerations.

Good uf you have to cut square holes on a routine basis for the sizes it is made for.

BUT, the listed price is £200, plus shipping.  Expensive.

No dust collection, either integral or as an accessory.

A jig made with planed lumber, sized to the correct opening, with some non slip rubber on the back, and an oscillating tool, would likely be almost as quick, would provide dust collection in many cases, and all around would probably be a better option. The oscillating tool could also be used to build the jig.

Again about the price. That price only seems to make sense if an electrician is using completely unskilled, or incompetent labor, and needs a hell of a lot of holes cut. A $50 price, give or take, might sell, but £200!  [scared]

This is the classic example of needing to assess value, not the price. I think it's a great idea and I hope they're successful with it so they can innovate further. [wink]

All I can say is that in the time it would take you to unpack and set the tool up most experienced sparkies would have the hole cut and point installed.

However if you are doing a complete house install I could see the benefit of using a drill that cuts square holes but in most cases the wire would be hanging out of a hole in the plaster because the site was prewired.

Nice tool and a smart thinking of taking a oscillating approach to like the multi tools we already know.

Their statement on the website is a bit off though.

QUADSAW IS THE
WORLD'S FIRST
TOOL THAT DRILLS
A SQUARE HOLE

Guess what's definition of a tool. The ability to drill square howls has been done for years. Here is one example

In any case nice solution for some one needing to make a lot of holes.

I don't need one  but that quadsaw is really slick. If I was cutting holes like that as part of my work I would get that in a heart beat.

This doesn't look much different from the Delta, General, Powermatic & other available mortising machines and mortising attachments for drill presses.

The QBit is definitely a better deal though it won't do squares which is what they need in the EU (I think). The only potential problem I see with these is that not all retroboxes use the same size opening and some of them have such a small lip that there is no room for slop (especially the low voltage ones). Looking at the design an size adjustable version is probably not practical.
