Hi Guys

I have a semi large collection of router bits (approx. 150 bits) ranging from cheap crappy bits to top quality from CMT and Festool.
I’m planning to upgrade some of the crappy ones to a better quality. Normally I’d just buy a single bit now and then…when needed.
In that case I’d go for CMT or Festool.

But I noticed the other day that Rutlands (in UK) are offering 50% price reduction on their Tornado router bits. Claimed to be “Americas No. 1 brand” so it’s a bit tempting to buy a handful or two.

Do you have any experience with the blue TCT Tornado bits? Are they professional quality as claimed?

Or is the “Americas No. 1” based on…how should we put it…one billion flies can’t be wrong, horse manure is good! (And that phrase is not meant as an insult to anybody!)

All comments on the quality of Tornado bits are welcome.  [smile]

I can't say anything about Tornado bit's, never heard of them. But as far as i'm concerned Americas #1 router bits are Whiteside.

Also never heard of Tornado.  I have Amana, CMT, Freud, and Whiteside bits and have been equally satified with all.

Thank you for your replies  [smile]

I Google'd for some further information. It seems to be the same router bits as the Craftex Blue Tornado sold by Busy Bee Tools in Canada.

Perhaps it's Canadas No. 1 instead of Americas No. 1 as stated on Rutlands webpage.

And I found a test made by Canadian Woodworking Magazine...

The bits have a decent score in the middle of the field and surprisingly they score better than CMT which I've always found to be good quality.  [unsure]

Maybe I should buy a few and run them trough a torture test with som MDF and oak...just for the fun of it  [big grin]

Kind regards
Henrik
