Question about returning/exchanging accessories

I just wanted to double check an issue with returning accessories.  I had gotten a 36mm AS hose two weeks ago.  But after using it I found it only made a real difference for DC on my TSs -- and on long cuts I actually found it to be a bit bulky and get in the way.  So I thought I would swap it out for a non AS 36mm hose, which I would reserve for cleaning and only occasional use on the power tools.  Went to the dealer (not the one I normally go to BTW), and was told that since the box in which the hose came was ripped (I opened it a bit too hastily -- hose itself was fine), I couldn't return it.  He seemed unimpressed when I suggested that it could be put in another, clean box.

If this is FS policy, that's fine, but I was under the impression that all items were governed by the 30 day no questions asked return policy.

The 30-day money back guarantee covers tools. So, basically anything with a serial number, per our warranty terminology for what is classified as a tool.

Return of accessories would be at the discretion of the dealer. I think most dealers would accept a return of an accessory within the 30 day period, but they would likely want it in resellable condition.
