Quiet Air compressor

Does anyone know where to get a quiet air compressor in Australia? I use my very noisy one for general dust clearing, occasional brad nailing and spray painting and I am simply sick of the noise it makes.

I was in the same situation recently, and after some research i settled on a Twin Tank Chicago Air Unit.  It has a claimed noise level of 50db which when looking at specs most run around the 80-90db range.

i Missed it's delivery today but it should be here tomorrow.  Once i try it out i can let you know my thoughts.

Now of course since it's End of Finical Year for us in Oz, it seems the price has dropped to $449......  I paid $529 3 weeks ago.... Kinda bummed by that but such is life.
I'll give you an update once have it up an running.
 
Do a search, and see if Rolair has a distributer down under.  JC10 quiet as a mouse!

Frank, I got hold of Rolair and they told me that they are in the process of having the JC10 built (assembled?) in Oz but I did not want to wait. Thanks for your response.
 
Oh, that's news - I contacted Rolair 6 months ago asking if they had 230V models available and they responded that at the time they were not even thinking about developing international versions of their compressors.
 
Talk to a dental supplier.  They are designed to work in a quiet environment.  You will pay a premium because it is "dental" however.
The quality of the air is superb as well.  The dental headpieces and many bonding procedures cannot have moisture so there are
oftentimes dryers built in.  A lot of times they have used ones as well.

It's not the greatest for high pressure, but the Senco PC1010 is quieter than all other general compressors out there including the Rolair. It's also half the weight too. I use the Senco in an apartment where noise is a critical concern.

However, as someone already mentioned, dentist drills are even quieter, but I'm not sure how much pressure they generally produce and they are certainly expensive.

I have that one too and it is not too bad in the noise department. It is also adequate for one person for most any kind of nailer unless you're really slamming a lot of large nails fast.

The dental compressors are much quieter but have much lower air delivery rate. If you really needed to go that route you could add add a portable storage tank.
 
I second (or is it third) the Senco PC1010.  As long as you are not trying to run a framing nailer, it's perfect.  Brad, headless pin nailers, staplers all work great and unobtrusively.

I have both the Senco PC 1010 and the Rolair JC 10.  The Senco is two or three times a loud with less than half the capacity of the JC 10.  It takes forever to reload pressure.  I use it in my shop as I only need the brad nailer.  I need to be careful to not work too fast with it.

My rolair is kept out in the barn for working on tire changes, fill ing tires with air, running my impact wrench and other projects where I need a lot more air and quicker pressure reload.  I have a neighbor who has complained about compressor noise, but she thinks i no longer have one now that I use the Rolair.  She can't even hear it if she is out in her yard not more than 30 or 40 feet from where I am using it.

The Senco is quiet enough to use in my basement wood shop, but it is no where near as quiet as the Rolair.

Hmm, I'm wondering if the difference is where you're operating them? I tried both the JC 10 and the PC 1010 in my apartment and the Rolair was noticeably louder ~ at least to my ears anyway.
 
Following on from my earlier post here is the email I received from Rolair. Judging from Reiska's post the Rolair expansion only applies to Australia not Europe:

"George, it not currently available to purchase in 240 volt but it can be made that way. We are currently working with an Australian company that may sell the JC10 in 240 in the future but may be several months from now. If you are in no hurry there may be light at the end of the tunnel. "

I have ordered a Chicago compressor from Sydney Tools as per mike68au's post.  It should arrive this week.

I have used the JC 10 in my cellar shop, but I need it out where I work on my LS equipment.
The PC 1010 is a lot noisier and somewhat less efficient to operate.  Perhaps the difference is age.
Let's say the JC 10 relates to when I was 38. The PS 1010 is more related to me now I am 39.
It is maybe 10-12 years old and makes a lot more noise with huffing and puffing but gets little accomplished. [unsure]
My JC 10 is only 2 years old and more like me at 38 when I hustled and bustled, lots of wind when i flew by and got a lot of work accomplished. [wink]

Well not for AU but in the USA California Air Tools(CAT) specializes in making quiet air compressor and cases/boxes to go along with them to virtually eliminate the sound.

I checked to see if they were going to start shipping to Australia and right now only Canada. There are companies that will global ship them, not sure its worth the shipping expense for an individual though.

Be careful with these.

I have a very early CAT-10020 that is great. It was about $575 at the time.

I bought a newer CAT-6310 that was super sale at about $150 instead of $250 at the time. It is poor at best.

I see they are now much less than they used to be and think they are cutting corners.
 
I picked up a California Air Tools CAT-1610A about a month ago.  While I cannot attest to the longevity yet the build quality appears to be very good.  It is super quiet and I am thoroughly pleased with it.
 
I have both a Rolair JC-10 and CAT 4620A.  The CAT I was very hesitant about getting due to quality control issues.  However, it was the only "quiet" model in the price range that was still portable and able to put out over 5 CFM @ 90.  I got lucky I suppose - no problems and has been working great. 

On the flip side, I have been having an intermittent issue recently with my Rolair - it often fails to recharge automatically unless the switch is flipped...need to troubleshoot that at some point.
