Hi Dan,

I had a look at the site and thought I might get an easier answer to my question from you.... Can these dogs be used on the MFT1080?

Yes, they fit both the 1080 and /3.  However, the fit more snuggly into the 1080.  I asked QWAS directly.

JGA.

I have 1080's and some the Qwas Dogs fit really tight, some just right and others loose.

Some of my 1080 tops have 19.8 mm holes, some 20 mm and even one at 19.75 mm, but the Qwas dogs work the same as none are loose enough to mess up the system and none are so tight they do not fit. With the small holes I do have to smack them in a bit the first time, after that they work fine.

I have an MFT 1080 which is about 5 years old.  In order to get my QWAS Dogs and Rail Dogs to fit, I had to sand the holes by hand  a little bit (for about 30 seconds per hole) using 3M 100 grit paper wraped round a dowel that was slightly more narrow than the holes

I noticed my very last batch of Qwas dogs are slightly thinner than the originals.

I still do not have any of the newer black style so I can not comment on them, I am getting some though and if they are any different I will post.

Here are qwas dogs the way I like to use them.

NO putting them in from the bottom at all. Just slide the dog in from the top, then put the clamp with rod in the hole, than clamp, you could not move the inlay in the picture with all your body weight. And again no washer and nothing put in from the bottom! The rod is threaded, but the hole is bigger so no screwing down is required. The rod is long enough to grab the side of the dog without lifting and coming out. The threaded rod works better as the smooth rod tends to pull up when only using from the top.

I used to put a dog in from the bottom and then screw the clamp in, but with a longer rod it is not necessary and everything can be done from the top. I use this almost exclusively now for clamping on the mft and have many long reach and regular reach clamps.

You do not need Kreg clamps, you can use  basic drill press vise clamps that are cheaper. I happened to get all my Kreg clamps, old style and new style for 1/2 price recently.

PS the rod will bend  so get the hardened steel threaded rod if you can,  even bent the softer ones work well enough.

I'm with Nick.  I have an MFT 1080, and two MFT 800s purchased over about 3 years timespan.  The holes size of each top is different with the oldest unit having the smallest holes and the newest having the largest holes.

Good Morning,
Just wanted everyone to know, I wrote an e-mail to Steve (Qwas) this morning.  It is relevant to this discussion.

Here is the text of the message I sent him:

Steve,
As you know, there has been a lot of friction between the FOG and TF.  However, I have not allowed that to stop people from publicizing your products on the Festool
Owners Group.

In fact, we have some active discussions right now on the FOG about the value of your products.

But in looking at your home page, I notice you only mention TalkFestool as a place where these products are being discussed.  I'd appreciate it if you could include a
mention of the FOG there as well.  It would be a nice gesture, showing that you and I are both trying to be reasonable and fair.  This is a small favor to ask, and may
go a long way in healing some divides.

I thank you ahead of time for your understanding.

Sincerely,
Matthew

The letter pretty much says it all.  I expect a positive response.

Thanks,
Matthew
